Default New RACE bearing failure

anyone else seen this happen ?

Installed new race bearings in march 2009
i drove to Germany, had one lap on Nurburgring and then my Engine blew up, ie my bearing 3 and 4 failed.
(i seems to be in a bad karma year)

Last week i had a track day, first one.
track is known to be hard on brakes and tires.
i was running Hoosiers.
Brakes was terrible, it felt like i had street pad in front and race pads in rear.

well after a day. my ABS shut down and i spun
here are a few video of my run, you can clearly see that i have brake problem, brakes way too much in rear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBJ5s98FA5Q
then completely spin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2_SnKScFyQ

well today i found the problem, LF race bearing is toast, look at my iPhone video
http://qik.com/video/1758566

then look at the back end
http://qik.com/video/1759187

have anyone ever seen this before ?

How many miles did you have on those bearings?

I had the flange on the left front bearing break on my C5 Z after about 6,000 miles. I got a lot of piston knockback and it created a pedal to the floor all of a sudden.

WOW that has a lot of movement! Wonder if it was just a bad one or what. I mean on C4's that common with the cheap chinese stuff but for a C5 or a C6 I don't hear to much about the wheel bearings being problems. Wonder how that would affect the ABS though.

You state "Race Bearings". Is that the new roller bearing type?

not really sure , before SFK i thought there was only one race bearing available, it was sold as "HD bearings with racing studs"
I will try the SFK bearings from Phadt, hopefully they will be better

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this issue. As you found out they have the right pads. We have a local customer with the simular brake setup. I haven't talked to him about what pads he is running, but I will see him at the track this weekend. In fact, he is towing my car to the track. We installed one of our masters on his car and he was very happy with the results. More info to come early next week.

Should be hear shortly.

For now C4's only, he's willing to investigate C5/6's if anyone has a dead bearing they can send him.

These appear to be very well built, and hopefully the last set of hubs you'll ever buy. I'm just reposting this information here; I'm not involved with this business.

Any questions should be directed to Mike (contact info below).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
MJM Racing is proud to present the first rebuildable, adjustable and regreasable front hub for 4th gen F-bodies. As most of you know already, these have been a long time coming and have gone though several interations and lots of testing over the last two years. If you've ever autocrossed with 315 Hoosier's or Kumho's, you know why these were developed.

Pictures can be seen here:
http://www.mjmracing.shutterfly.com/

Highlights:

1. New forged and hardened 4340 steel spindle made by Mark Williams Enterprises to MJM Racing, LLC specifications
2. Timken tapered roller bearings
3. Factory ABS retained
4. Original exterior dimensions retained for a "bolt on" application with no other modifications required.
5. Adjustable for bearing play, regreasable and rebuildable.
6. Comes with new ARP studs

We will begin to take orders on 1-1-09.

We need to get at least 20 pairs in the initial order to get the best pricing on machine work and parts. Please post any questions as well as stating your interest so a list can be compiled.

The initial price will be $650 each plus a core. That price will apply to this first initial offering only and these are only offered to the people of this site at this time. The core charge will be $100 per hub if you do not have any old ones you can send. Frankly, cores are necessary and if that ends up being too low of a core charge to get people to send cores, it will go up. Please be considerate and at least knock the big chunks of rust, dirt and grease off before you send them. If you have already sent cores to help with development your names are recorded and you need not send any additional cores (unless you want to).

Our lawyer has prepared a document that must be signed by each interested party prior to any transaction. A copy will be emailed to all who state they are interested in purchase.

Please post all questions here or call me, my PM folder is already a bit full.

sounds good, will keep you updated.
Timkin was the brand bearings that failed.
I "hope" the brake feel was due to wheel bearing failure and also the ABS shut down and rear tire lockup was from the same wheel bearing failure.

Both rear tires was badly flat spotted, so i guess a new lesson learned.

1. i will always try to get the best brakes possible

2. i will always get the best brand wheel bearings.

Then i can get more HP, better tires etc.

safety first

imagine this happening at SPA or Nurburgring, top speed close to 190 MPH

well we survive and learn all the time

Nurburgring rocks! I was there on April 11th in the AM, driving a new 135i(blue).

I saw some black C6s there..was one of them you?

Sorry about your motor, I know the feeling.

Good luck!
