Default Hoosiers spinning on the rims?

This is amazing to me, check out my R6's in these pics or more specifically, the red stripes on the tire and wheel. They were mounted without soapy water by a shop that does alot of circle track tires. They were brand new and you can see that the RF tire rotated in the braking direction (asuming that it did not rotate fully multiple times. This may or may not be a valid assumption???). I marked them with a paint stick to see if the rotate and they certainly did! This is after 6 sessions at NHMS with me and Roy Benedetti driving.
RF tire and wheel:

Now here is the LR and it has rotated in the torque direction (again, same assumption):

gary

I get that all the time. Dont even bother to balance the rears any more

What we did was when we took off an old set, I took some 80 grit sand paper, and scuffed up the inside of the rim were the tire mounts, This helped to keep the tire from rotating on the rim somewhat.

Just a the way it is

A suggestion made to me was to balance the wheel with the sensors by itself then just mount the tire. Best suggestion so far

I have been mounting drag tires for my customers using Permatex spay gasket on the beads. I spray it on the rim bead seat heavily and mount the tires dry and seems to help with tire rotation.

I am guilty, I dont even mark mine.........I think I will start...

Gary - clearly you are braking and accelerating too hard.

We noticed the same thing at Track Attack on a couple of cars. Time to get out the sheet metal screws like the oval track guys do.....

Curious....what if they dont move at all or take awhile to move, you are running unbalanced wheels, I've seen some wheel/tire combos that needed a ton of weight to balance them?

However, I will be marking mine now as well.

Yeah, with the amount of movement in the tire and the amount of rubber that gets caked onto rim they are never balanced anyways

Gary,

I mount my own tires. I balance the wheel and not the combo. I mount the tire with cheap hairspray. Hairspray is slick when wet for very easy mounting and is very volitile and drys quick and is adhesive. It prevents the tires from spinning and since it is not water based and drys clean does not affect air pressures as much when you use anhydrous nitrogen. Some tire monkeys will not use hairspray because it is not DOT approved. If so ask them to mount dry using bead sealer only. It works the same way as hairspray but takes longer to dry like over night but is dot but not quite as slick as hairspray to help you mount the tire. Plus it is more messy.

YOUR not accelerating HARD Enough J/k

if you need a lot of wt to balance, then maybe time to look at some different wheels.

I don't think the new AP brakes are going to make this any less of an issue! Another thing that I think of is what are the rears doing? I mean, you put over 2000 pound-feet of torque into them in 3rd, then the brakes want to unspin them.
Can anyone think of a way to record or quantify this? We used to run bead locks on our Moto-X bikes, I wonder if anyone makes them for 11-13 inch wide wheels?

This is what I do except I also balance the tire after it's put on the rim. Mark the tire where the tire weights belong and then after each track day just relocate the tire weights. Real easy to do and you only have to balance the rims once.

Both sets of Toyo R888s I ran did that. I marked mine on the outside instead of the inside so I can look at them after every session.

On both sets, the slipping seemed to stop after a while. So I would be interested to see if your Hoosiers continue to rotate or if they stay put. Mark them again and see. Looks like you have more sessions left on those.

my tires rotate on the wheel all the time. Of course its because of the Viper's awesome torque and great brakes (had to get that in!).

About not balancing? One of my rear rims has a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch wobble in it. Does it hurt performance? Not today it didn't. Set the T1 track record at Mid Ohio on a "wobbly" rim.

Maybe I need more "wobble" in me to go faster...

I thought this was only a problem that drag racers experienced. Hmmm..
