Default Towing with a GMC medium duty truck or working with one?

GM ready to drop Flint Assembly's medium-duty trucks
Robert Snell / The Detroit News
General Motors Corp. has scrapped plans to sell its medium-duty truck business after a fruitless four-year search.

President and CEO Fritz Henderson said the business has not been successful financially.

GM had negotiated with Isuzu Motors Ltd. as recently as February to reach a deal that would have kept the truck division in Flint through 2014. An earlier failed agreement with Navistar International Corp. would have relocated jobs to another factory.

About 400 hourly and salaried workers are employed on the medium-duty truck line in Flint, which produced 22,000 vehicles last year.

The medium-duty truck business is based in Flint Assembly, where workers will either be offered buyouts or be deployed at other facilities, Henderson told reporters today.

Production of the Chevy Kodiak and GMC Topkick medium duty trucks will stop by July 31.
