Nascar Mexico - unbelievable crash.
Nascar Mexico - unbelievable crash.

In one of the most tragic and unusual finishes in auto racing ever, NASCAR Mexico driver Carlos Pardo was involved in a terrible accident with only a few laps remaining, leaving his car in hundreds of pieces, ending the race, earning himself the victory, and eventually taking his life.
The race in Pueblo was on the 97th lap when Pardo was nudged from behind, causing him to spin out right into the wall at the pit lane entrance at an estimated 120 mph. He was eventually removed from the wreckage and taken to the hospital by helicopter where he died 45 minutes later.
Pardo was later awarded the victory as the race was called due to a time limit after the accident. At the time, he was in the lead.

Wow, that is terrible. Not a smart move on the other guy's part. He should not have tried that or at least should have moved over enough to clear. It wasn't like Pardo was blocking.

Watch the huge bump in the track right before they touched. It was like something you see in the Baja 1000.
Racing is racing and unlike the other people on Youtube, I think this was one of those things that just happens. People learn and hopefully they make some changes in the track.

Hate that the guy died. But, thats SOP in SMASHCAR. The guy in 2nd always, wrecks the 1st, and then says "I didn't mean to crash him, I just wanted to rattle his cage." such bs.
Nascar needs to put pressure switchs on the front bumpers of the cars to kill the ignition. IF you dumb *** tries to wreck somebody, it kills your car and you lose..................
Thats why i don't watch SMASHCAR.

That accident has nothing to do with driving and everything to do with **** POOR facility management. I can't believe someone would park concrete barriers at a 45deg angle towards traffic flow!!
Might as well put a gap in the outside guardrail while you're at it. My condolences

some feedback from someone that runs there

I've run three NASCAR Mexico events in the past 2 years, the cars are the same as the stateside Nationawide/Camping World Series cars. Trust me, that cage is stronger than anything specified by the SCCA's GCR's.
The car hit a non-SAFER barrier/pit road wall sideways at 120+. Carlos was still in the seat when they got to him.

Its everyone's responsibility to look at the courses they run at for things just like this. Point it out to your track manager ........ propose a solution.
I saw a pic of a flying miata from the sprints.......reminded me of the BMW at Mid-O a while back. Am pretty sure Mid-O remedied that situation after the attention it brought.
If I find the pic again, it WILL get forwarded to RA for their consideration.......
HPT had so many walls it was crazy, cars destroyed against walls protecting nothing. Many of them have since been removed or relocated. Kudos to HPT for recognizing the issue and fixing it.........
ADDED: Miata pic forwarded to Road America folks..........
