My First SCCA National Tour Win --
I'm pretty pumped! I finished first in class (ASP) at the Finger Lakes SCCA National Tour event this past weekend.
Congratulations to my co-driver, Mark Labbancz who took second in ASP, winning the car a total of 3 tires from Hoosier over the weekend...
GJ Dixon drove his C6 Z51 to second in SS and Jason Lisner grabbed the last SS trophy spot (4th place) in his C5 Z06.
Ron Bistrais is on the sheet in the 4th place trophy position in AS dispite matching the third place time in AS in his C4. Not sure of what the tie-breaker is that is used by SCCA.
Here some shots of my Z16 in action this past weekend:
Off to the DC Pro this weekend where I'll move back into the SS dogfight.

Burning Brakes
Good job, "Ted"!
From Solo Rules...
7.6 TIES
Ties for trophy or point scoring positions shall be broken by
comparing the next fastest runs from each course. The times will be
combined and then compared to break a tie. If the tie persists, it
shall be broken by a runoff, provided both contestants agree. If
agreement is not reached, the tie shall stand. The additional run
shall be used only to break the tie, and shall not be used to place
either contestant in a position other than those tied for.

There's a good story here...
I bumped up to ASP from SS because "a man's got to know his limitations" and I needed some tires. With Matthew Braun and GJ Dixon entered in SS I knew I was a blind squirel amongst national champions so tires were out of the reasonable realm of reality for me. But none of the top national ASP competitors had entered the event which gave me a pretty good shot of snagging a tire or two in ASP. So I convinced my co-driver to bump up in class.
After day one I was 2.1 seconds ahead of my co-driver and 2.5 seconds ahead of third place in ASP. Compared to SS, my time would have put me in second place behind Braun on Saturday, but SS had rain on their third runs so I'm sure some of them would have passed me if they had the opportunity to run their third runs in the dry. My best time was on my second run so I got it done in two and felt I put a pretty good time in the books.
To snag the tires I just had to have a decent, clean, run on Sunday, but nothing is ever easy...
My co-driver got called for a sound violation on his first run. We had cleared the 95db limit the day before with levels of 88-92dbs and failing sound was not even on our minds. He had to run back to paddock to get the sound deadening stuff while I had to run my first run.
Another "fail" and the car would have been DQ'd so I just wanted to get a run into the books that would pass sound and hold on to my 1st place. I had a 2.5 second cushion over the 3rd place car. To pass sound I shifted to third near the sound meter to keep the revs down. I made a clear run and was sure I secured the win untill I saw the timer read: 117.432 on what should have been a 50+ second run. WTF??? The next car came in at 119+ and they awarded us reruns. Not exactly what I wanted.
I called a mechanical now that the sound deading stuff was available and installed it before taking my rerun. Still not sure if it would pass sound I still shifted to third by the sound meter to make sure I got a good run in the books. Unfortunately on the downshift back to second into a slalom I got out of line and tagged a cone. Good run +1 cone. Too close for comfort.
By now all sorts of cars were being called for sound and they realized the meter was broken. We were informed that no more sound violations would be charged to any cars so I went out to try to clean up my run, which I did. With 1st place secured I just went out for fun on my third run and oversteered the rear into a wall of cones on my last run of the day, but really just didn't care because victory was mine!
Nothing is ever easy.
