Default More Evidence that Racing Cars Makes You Cool!

True story that just happened last night...

My 17-year old daughter comes home from hanging out with her friends. It turns out they ran into a group of guys from another high school that she knew, but one of the guys was new to her. She introduced herself to him without using her last name.

Later in the conversation, for some reason, my name was mentioned. The two girls with Rachael are good friends of hers and close with my wife and I, so this is not unsual.

Well, the newcomer hears my name and starts raving about me, which amuses my daughter as she doesn't know how this guy know of me. It's nice that he is saying good things (as opposed to saying, yeah, that Pintaric is a real dick!), but she's is wondering how he knows me.

It turns out that he is good friends with my best friend's cousin's son (follow that one?) and met me one time at a high school football game. Our conversation got around to my racing and his ears perked up quite a bit. He told Rachael that I was so cool because I raced a Viper, drove a Lexus, but acted and dressed like a regular guy.

So there you go, more evidence that racers are cooler than the average guy on ths street. And if you are one of the "chosen ones" and get to race a Viper, you are even more special.

On a serious note, I have always said that me racing makes me a bit more effective at being a father. Here's why: my daughter's friends who happen to be boys almost all know that I do race. To boys, this is really way cool So they're syaing good things about me to Rachael as opposed to, "Rachael, your dad is a dick." Because of this, what fatherly advice I give to her is recieved a bit better because her friends are talking me up rather than talking me down.

Very cool.

My Fathers day card from my 7 year old son this year said:

"Dad, you are the best driver in the universe".

Nothing mentioned though about Fathers day.

We call the guys that race Vipers special. In another way....

You should ask the kid to help you in the garage. Have him get real close to you as you are tighting down a lug nut. Have a "slip" and hit him very hard in the "junk". That way he will know who's still boss. I spoke very highly of GF's dads too, with different things in my mind.

Me as a senior in Highschool
To the Dad "Yea you have a really nice boat, I think it's so cool that you do all your own work on it"
Thinking to myself, damn your daughter is hot and I would like to have submarine party with your daughter.

Watch the nice guys

To respond to that threat, here is my standard line:

"Listen kid, I race cars on this side. In my profession I hire private investigators and in racing I am really good friends who do work for the CIA. Trust me, I will never touch you, but you don't want to step out of line."

Well, that works in every case but one. One time a first year student at West Point took my daughter out. So, I couldn't impress him with my racing because he gets to drive an Ambrams tank during the summer (Ambrams > Viper). I don't own guns, and even if I did, he has access to more. So, when he arrived at the house, I played "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and phoned a friend.

Some of you don't know this, but Chris Ingle is a colonel in the Army. I put Chris on the phone with this young man. All I heard was "yes, sir," "no, sir." and "absolutely not sir."

Rachael just looked at me with those evil eyes. But it was a priceless moment.
