Default Buying a GT1 car

So I am entering a deal to buy a GT1 car

Going to remove the Camaro body and drop on a C6 body like this one

Maybe see about a Katech Track Attack to drop in there to make it more Z06 like

I was just looking for a cheap safe race car to take to South America

The chassis is by Left Hander, its no Pratt & Miller but the price was right

Cool! You really have to be carefull buying a backyard special, sometimes good, sometimes bad. I'm going to get beat at this weekends race by a Left hander chassis, well unless I call in a concrete truck to fill in about 600-700 pounds

Have fun down there!

Good for you - sounds like a blast. Word of caution on GT1 body swaps, do lots of homework on track width and wheelbase before you take the plunge. First race car project I was ever involved in was removing a C3 body from a 1981 Pickett Trans Am car to retrofit on a C5 body. Ended up having to completely rebuild the front of the car and suspension at both ends - tons of work! Maybe the more modern cars are more standardized, but I'd sure check it!!

Good luck, and have fun!!

If the car was legal as a Camaro, track and wheelbase should be the same. Where a swap like this gets tricky is the Corvette greenhouse is much smaller and could require a complete re-work of the roll cage (not cheap). Measure twice, buy once. /:\

There was a C6 Derhaag type body on RacingJunk.com for 5500. That is a
pretty good price.

Probably the quickest, most serviceable, GT-1 type car you could buy/build for the money would be a HOWE, PORT CITY, HAMKE or similar perimeter frame Late model stock car.

The FIVESTAR type ABC bodies make tremendous downforce and have a small frontal area.

Hang a GT-1 wing on there, 16" wheels and rubber

Plug in an SB2 Chevy, a road race geared Jerico 4 speed, square up the front suspension, move the weight around (battery, dry sump tank, etc)

examples of this would be Jeff Emery's Road Atlanta 2009 National winning Monte Carlo........1:23.xxx March 2009, this car has run
2:03-2.04 Sebring Long, 1:07 at Roebling etc.

Charles Wicht ex Kevin Harvick South West Tour Snap On Monte Carlo
2:05 at Sebring with 670 hp 18 degree motor not SB2

1:26.xxx at Road Atlanta with above

I have seen very nice roller chassis of this type go for around 7K.

IMO without a doubt the most cost effective way to go GT-1

Look at the windshield banner on that yellow Mark Schaffer Vette. lol

Bosco, while a 1:23-1:26 for GT1 at ATL is quick, to really run up front you need a 1:20 like the Trans-Am guys do.
