alex taylor iii, fortune magazine, 6/24/09, “keeping up with gm’s fritz henderson”
http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/23/auto...tune/index.htm
“general motors is racing through the early stages of its bankruptcy, in the hope of emerging as a new. Independent company by august or early september. It’s a breakneck pace, dictated by ceo fritz henderson[.] henderson operates at race-track speeds…practices what he preaches…plans to focus on the revenue side of the business, developing better products, building stronger brands, and selling them smarter.”

cheryl jensen, new york times, 6/22/09, “detroit carmakers improve quality, study finds”
http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009...y-study-finds/
“consumers who are considering buying a chrysler or general motors vehicle but are hesitating because of the impact bankruptcy might have on quality can take some comfort from the new j.d. Power and associates 2009 initial quality study. New vehicles sold by…g.m. Have improved in initial quality by an average of 10 percent from last year[.] this compares with an 8 percent improvement for the industry over all, which j.d. Power calls ‘significant.’ …[t]he domestic manufacturers have narrowed the quality gap substantially with import makers. …and toyota…scored only marginally better than…chevrolet….”

gm-volt.com, 6/24/09, “pre-production chevy volt hit the road!”
http://gm-volt.com/2009/06/24/video-...-hit-the-road/
“gm has just released a video of and blog post by andrew farah, the volts chief engineer. Andrew demonstrates one of the new pre-production genuine chevy volts that has rolled off the assembly line. He reports he drove the first one on tuesday, integration vehicle #1, more than a week ahead of schedule, and drove it again today.”

justin hyde, detroit free press, 6/25/09, “billions approved to finance gm bailout”
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...-bailout_n.htm
“general motors won approval thursday to use up to $33.3 billion to pay for its bankruptcy, after making a few changes to settle technical objections. The step marks another major milestone in gm’s dash through bankruptcy court, which it and president obama’s auto industry task force hope to complete with the creation of a new, government-owned gm by the end of the month.”

tom krisher, ap, 6/24/09, “gm retooling ohio factory for small-car success”
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...0j92wd99184fo1
“as general motors corp. Undergoes its transformation from big and slow to lean and fast in a new york bankruptcy court, a similar metamorphosis is under way inside a mammoth eastern ohio factory that will make what arguably is gm's most important vehicle. The 5-million-square-foot lordstown complex about 50 miles southeast of cleveland will start making the chevrolet cruze compact car early next year, and workers assigned to the factory's $351 million retooling are well aware that they have no margin for error.”

becky yerak, chicago tribune, 6/24/09, “domestic car brands gain favor with consumers”
http://www.chicagotribune.com/busine...,3556203.story
“the woes of the u.s. Auto industry, including bankruptcies by two of the big three, haven't yet dampened online interest about their brands. Three of the five car brands gaining the most consumer interest on kelley blue book's web site in may were domestic nameplates, according to a study of online traffic patterns by the irvine, calif.-based resource for vehicle buyers and sellers. … despite the gm bankruptcy and dealer closings, chevrolet's share of market interest surged due to strong consumer interest in the new 2010 camaro as well as the traverse and equinox crossovers.”

detroit free press, 6/23/09, “cadillac converj nets top concept award”
http://www.freep.com/article/2009062...+concept+award
“cadillac won the award for the most significant concept vehicle for the second year in a row as its converj extended-range electric car took the top honor at the 2009 north american vehicle of the year ceremony tuesday. The converj, which uses the same powertrain layout as the chevrolet volt that goes into production next year, also won the best specialty concept award as the vehicle with the best use of significant and advanced new technology. Gm created the converj to show environmentally friendly electric vehicles can also provide the style and features luxury buyers want, said dave rand, general motors’ executive director of advanced global design. …the cadillac cts coupe, set to go into production in lansing next year, took home the award for most significant concept last year.”

To be truthful there is not a car company out there that is not be ravaged at this time. Toyoduh is down 39% in sales last year and bleeding big dolaars also.. At this particular time they had deeper pockets to weather the storm. The domestics tagged a lot of their profit to trucks and SUVs so when businesses, credit, and gas hit the wall they were hit the worst. Toyduh and others were trying to jump into the big vehicle high profit margin cars also.

Not to say GM has not shot itself in the foot in many ways. It will be a long road back. They need the consumer to believe in them. Dealer service will improve as the new dealer agreements allow GM to rapidly remove a franchise from a dealer with not much fuss or money. This is due to the new agreements dealers recently signed.

Suppliers will be failing in large numbers as Ford and GM are not buying parts for the time they are ceasing production. I think it will not be good for parts for a long while. Ford is cutting the number of suppliers they use from about 1600 to 800.
