The converj, which uses the same powertrain layout as the chevrolet volt that goes into production next year, also won the best specialty concept award as the vehicle with the best use of significant and advanced new technology. Gm created the converj to show environmentally friendly electric vehicles can also provide the style and features luxury buyers want, said dave rand, general motors’ executive director of advanced global design. …the cadillac cts coupe, set to go into production in lansing next year, took home the award for most significant concept last year.”

gm is gearing up to begin serious work on hybrid vehicles as part of an effort to help reach president barack obama's goal of putting 1 million hybrids and electric cars on the road by 2015. Gm plans to have 14 hybrid models by 2012, a spokeswoman said today.

Not to say GM has not shot itself in the foot in many ways. It will be a long road back. They need the consumer to believe in them. Dealer service will improve as the new dealer agreements allow GM to rapidly remove a franchise from a dealer with not much fuss or money. This is due to the new agreements dealers recently signed.
Suppliers will be failing in large numbers as Ford and GM are not buying parts for the time they are ceasing production. I think it will not be good for parts for a long while. Ford is cutting the number of suppliers they use from about 1600 to 800.
