Default Black Magic Tire Treatment and Autox?

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone knew if using Tire Wet or Black Magic or other similar products to make your tires look black and shiny after a wash had a detrimental effect on the rubber compound's hardness/grip?

My 2003 GY supercar non run-flat z06 tires are hard enough already and I don't need to dry them out further to make them look good at the expense of performance.

Thanks!
Andrew

Tire shine products and autocross do not mix. You could maybe make a good effort to minimize how close you get it to the tread portion of the tire, but for some reason, the stuff typically still finds it's way to the tread and it becomes a slippery situation.

Yep, if you plan on using your car to autoX... don't put tire shine on the tires. Even if you apply it carefully to the sidewalls, it still gets on the tread and its like driving on ice. I did it when I first started autoXing and it took a couple of events before it really all came off and didn't affect my driving. Never again.

If you got a spare set of rims and tires that you use for track purposes, you could just use the tire shine on your street tires and still have your race tires for autoX.

No, no!!! Don't listen to them. Get the thick silicon stuff and do the whole tire. Including the tread area. It makes slaloming a whole new adventure

You get no extra points or time deductions for showing up with a fresh coat of Zaino and tire dressing. Do that after to get the cone marks off the car. I usually kill several of the little orange guys each event.

Seriously though the decent quality tire dressing at least keeps your sidewalls from dry rotting. But age of the tread will never change. They just turn to crap after a few years. I got several sets of old Supercars that are hard as rocks. But fun to burn up.

Just put it on with a sponge/rag, don't spray it. Unless you are at a National Championship, it isn't going to make a difference.

Thanks guys- I am going to avoid it. The way I see it is that if I can learn to drive on these rock hard tires I will be a rock star on fresh street tires and a driving instructor on r-compounds.

I put tire shine on my car, even on the r-compounds.

I'm leading the 2009 10-race series (SS) 4 wins to 2 after 6 races. We have one of the toughest group in the country (many, many national tour wins in many classes).

That being said, I don't get the tire shine on the tread.

Hell yeah! Gotta look good first, right?

Miss you bro! Hope you come back soon. National Tour treating you well? I saw Darrin did great recently and David Marcus scored his 2nd back-2-back win in Washington DC in the pro. I guess Dissimo's car really is that good.
