Default How hot do the gases of an engine get?

Watched NOVA science now last night

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/0403/04.html

they talked about the new drive NASA is going to test on the Space station.

Instead of conventional drive which reach temperatures in the thousands of degrees, this drive heats up to MILLIONS of degrees!

This could cut the time for a commute to Mars in half!

One thing they didn't mention is how they are going to power the engine. There has to be something that powers the antenna and the magnetic coils. At the beginning of the piece they did say he was studying Nuclear Fusion so maybe somebody is looking at a fusion power plant.
