Default Now there's a splitter!

I think that those endplates would block a fair amount of area at large yaw angles but otherwise that is some kind of contraption.

I believe that is the current Pikes Peak record holder. Monster Tajima's Suzuki.

The Phantom is my favorite, Gary.

I know Tajima won Pikes Peak but I'm not sure if he set a record time.

He did not set a record time this year, but, he does hold the current record for Pike's Peak. Here

If I ever win the $200M Powerball, I am going to buy a Rhino and learn to fly it. I hear they are only like $2M in decent shape. I might have to start out on a P-51 or P-47 or something first!

those endplates keep air from spilling "off" more often than they keep fresh air from spilling "on"

He does hold the current record for unlimited but it should be noted that it's not much faster than Millen's best time(the previous record) and Millen's time was set on a full gravel/dirt course, while Tajima's record is after the course was mostly paved. I was there the last year that Millen ran and the first year that there was any pavement. He still didn't go any faster. The mountain has to allow you to be fast. The course condition is crucial.

When you are drifting the car around a corner at high yaw angles the outside endplate is blanking a portion of the upper surface of the splitter and creating a lower pressure area in it's shadow (when compared to zero yaw angle). That will directly affect the downforce the splitter is creating.

Gary, I have the same dream about buying a Phantom. I keep my eyes on the Aviation Week Aerospace source book every year to see which countries are still operating them. Germany and Japan still have a large number. So does Iran...

I did get to sit up front in an active duty WW version at George AFB, but only in a hangar. My friend was the IG for the unit and so he sat in back and explained a bunch of stuff to me. I was most interested in the throttles!

Too bad they spend less and less time sideways up there these days.

I don't see you as a flying rock type of person. That thing is an engineering disaster! Won't fly on it's own so they put a bigger motor in it and the parachute/brakes where an after thought!
Sounds like a lot the the people that do HPDE/track days....

I can see you in a P-51, sleek airframe designed to compliment excessive horsepower! Now that sounds like fun.

racing on a slippery surface with and without aero is something I know about a little. They are much easier to drive with the aero. Maybe a tick slower but much safer.
