Default Need help with strapping down C5 to Trailer

I purchased a Trailex open trailer for my 2001 C5 and I need some advice. Should I use T-hooks and ratchet straps or axle straps thru the wheels with ratchet straps. Thanks.

t-hooks. I leave the front straps at a set length, straight. I pull up a little extra, hook them under the car, then roll back to tighten them. Then I attach T-hooks at the rear and cross them. Have done it this way for 15 years......as a matter of fact, I'm still using the same straps I bought back then.

Fast and simple. Leaving the front straps the set length your car is in the same place each time. Figure out where your trailer pulls the best. I know I had my car too far forward for a while. I moved it back some and it is much nicer pulling.

I put e-track on the floor of my trailer to attach the straps. Allows me to move the tie downs around for various loads and add straps for other items.

Thanks for all the input. Seems like T-hooks are the most common way to go. I talked to Scott from TruckNTow and he recommended using straps thru the wheels with ratches front and rear. Does not seem like anyone is using them.

The factory ships them on trucks that use the T Hooks. Your local tow truck operators use them as well. Might be a good reason to consider them versus through the wheel straps.

Another vote for the T hooks, crossed straps in the rear. Also through reading far too many posts on this board, throw the car in neutral after the car is strapped down, read that it prevents wear on the gears as the car shifts around on the trailer. Oh and keep the parking brake on

Has anyone had a problem with T-hooks on a C6Z06? There are only two rivets holdong the T-hook plate in the aluminium frame. I've heard a couple problems with shearing the rivets but it seems to be a rare problem. On a regular C5 or C6 I guess there are just slots in the frame for T-hooks and not a metal plate riveted into the frame.

Not true. C5 and C6 cars also have a separate plate set into the frame for the T-hooks.

Thanks for info, I didn't know about regular C5 and C6, I was just speculating. I also have a C5, I just never paid any attention to the slots on it. I never haul the C5 but I plan on hauling the C6Z06 with T-hooks. I just bought a trailer and havn't used it yet. I'll have to go up to the garage and check out my C5 slots I guess.
