Thunderhill raceway pics (C6 Z06 ****)
I paid a pretty penny for some track pics and so I wanted to share them
The pics are from the beginners group with Hooked On Driving at ThunderHill in Willows,CA and the passengers were coaches.
I was really slow but got fantastic feedback. Both coaches said I was smooth with the wheel and throttle! I tried real hard to be smooth with the throttle, boy its not nearly as easy to do compared to my C5 Hardtop!
The coaches were good and included with the price, and I'm not saying that because they stroked my ego, I promise! I had coaching all day, it was fantastic!
I drove the track in 3rd the whole day. I wanted to focus on the line and getting my "smooth is fast" mentallity back. Funny thing is with these cars you can exceed 100 MPH in 3rd so I wasn't THAT slow
The brakes didn't hold well at all and thats what kept me from really working hard to bring up the speed. There was a good aspect to this and that is I was having lots of fun and not pushing to learn so hard that the fun-factor drops. I tend to do that and sometimes get cought up in it and forget why I'm there.
I had factory pads with Motul fluid. The brakes were fading, cooling off, fading etc and then I warped the back rotors, AGAIN

If you have B R E M B O S that don't require taking off the whole caliper to change the pad, I will for sure consider them on all corners as I'm in the market for a BBK.

And i'm BRUTAL on my brakes... i run 2:00-2:02 at Thunderhill and 1:40-1:41 at Laguna Seca... Not as good as the T1 guys, but not bad for a weekend warrior HPDE guy!

Nice touch with the "pop" and "bling" Brembo shot
I'm looking to swap street and track pads, unless there is a pad that works for both and is quiet on the street.
I'm more than a rocks throw from T-Hill and the last time I drove down there with race pads (cobalt friction) they were, um, a bit noisy and not good for cruzing downtown on a Friday night
Otherwise, I would have no problems wrenching on those bad boy bolts 1 time a year!
BTW, your damn fast on T-Hill! You have my respect (not that you didn't before )

Not sure on the coach names :o
The guy in the motorcycle looking helmet with the mirror finish drove a stripped out grey Mercedes. I think it was a 4 door even. He was pretty fast in it! For T2 he tought me to late apex it and bring on the throttle early to push the car out to the edge of the track at the end of the exit.
There was also a police cruzer in our group. First thing he said was, "OK, first thing your going to do is pass that cop!". We rode the *** of that cruzer HARD and put the pressure on before passing and putting about 25 cars on it We had a great time doing that! It will be the first and only time that I could do that w/out going to jail!

Wow those are some pretty sweet pictures! I wish I had someone who took pictures while I drive. I have no good track pictures.

Most track days I've gone to here in the Pacific Northwest as well as down in NoCal have pro photographers like RedMistPhoto and GotBlueMilk. They charge somewhere between $40 and $70 per day.

All the good brake upgrades use radial mount calipers; those bad boy bolts aren't crazy high torque values and they're super easy to access. The hardest part of swapping pads, even if you have to remove the calipers, is jacking up the car...

See how there're no tabs on the caliper to bolt it in? Instead you slide the caliper over a couple of studs. This means you can easily remove the caliper nice and quick. More importantly it means you can change rotors without having to remove the bracket...
FWIW, the motorcycle radial mounts are an easy way to see this. :-)
