There is a member here that does both with a C3 and has been doing it for years. He goes by 69427 on here and I am sure he can answer any questions you may have.

Cool car! However I see a couple things that would make it a group 3 car, unless you dont run NCCC rules anymore.

I'll reserve judgement on calling but I'm interested as well. Seeing the car as often as I have, I've yet to find anything that would indicate grp 3.

Great pics Chris. The new rolling stock looks pretty damn good!

Thanks for all the great responses.
I just picked up a C3 in good used condition. It is mostly original - just really been used! I can't decide weather to make it a good weekend cruise type car or make it a dedicated track car. I know nothing about autocross, but looking through this forum I did not see anything on C3s. I am interested in doing something competitive with it.

You can autox anything

Which is just what I advise you to do.

Take your daily driver, that is if it's not too top heavy, out to an autox and try it out.

That will give you a good feeling of what you in for.

BTW it's quite addictive.

I could be mistaken but I didnt think you could do anything that would lighten it other than take out the spare tire. Like for instance you have lightweight seats and non-pop up headlights. I havnt done NCCC events in awhile so it could have changed.

I guess it has been a while for you, because the rules that I built the car to were an older set and yes those things were allowed even more than six years ago (when I finished the car as it appears now).

At the time to run the seats in Grp 2 you had to have Grp 3 safety equipment (roll bar, 3" belts etc.), but that has changed since then and you can run light seats in 2 without such equipment.

I questioned the headlights myself but I was reassurred by my RCD that they were approved as a body mod, and I'm not the only one running (or to have run) fixed headlights in 2A/B. And specifically someone in your own region is set up similarly.

Group 3 rules do not allow much lightening beyond the Grp 2 rules.

I think GRP 3 turned into GRP 2 with a big @$$ motor. All the others rules seem to be pretty similar.

Removing the bumpers put you in group 3. Is my thought. But I have been known to be wrong. Just my $.02

If any of mine are broke, my dads old 66 that I learned in back in 1990 is in the garage and ready. I ran it at nelson's a few years back and you have to remember to man-handle these cars.

Found this shot of me from 1993 at Mid-Ohio, notice the daylight under the right front wheel. Photo taken by good friend Tim O. here on the forum.

No, it is a legal Group 2 allowance.

I stand corrected.

As rasrboy stated these cars are a hand full to drive them. You have to drive these cars hard. They can be just as fast and competative as any new car if set up and driven.

With the age of C3's many need new bushings, springs and shocks. This will get you back to a good handling & driving C3. Pump your tire pressure up and go try a few events. Seat time is always the best mod that can be made.
