Default Fuel System Change Required on C6.R GT2

AUTOEXTREMIST is reporting that the C6.R GT2 will be required to change its fuel injection sytem for Petit Le Mans and the season finale at Laguna Seca. Apparantly the 6.0L LS7R currently utilizes a direct fuel injection system. The system is being removed at the request of the ACO, supposedly as a result of lobbying by Porsche and Ferrari

#1: do you have a link to this?
#2: is there anything in the rules that prevents direct injection?

there might be a rule requiring a "production-based" system......these aren't prototypes after all.

It's been on the car for over a year and nobody noticed the blatantly obvious DI fuel pump in all of the press photos. I was shocked when they made it that obvious in the press release. That was highly classified when the engine was at Katech.

GT2 and GT1 are run under much different rules.

the car must use a stock block that is available in any Chevrolet production car. They have a custom cast block with 6 bolts per cylinder that was legal in GT1.

Same for the heads. GT2 must be a stock cylinder head from any production Chevy engine.

I doubt that they will give up the custom cast block either. which also has 6 bolts and is a non production casting.

We use a stock LS3 Block and heads.

the fact that Ferrari and Porsche supply their street cars with race qualilty heads and blocks allows them to use what is necessary because they supply the cars with them.

In GT2, for the first 2 races, they had a "Waiver". Until Ferrari and Porsche complained.

We tried in 08 and 09 to get the heads to no avail.

Direct injection uses somewhere in the area of 3000 psi + to deliver the fuel to the combustion chamber under extreme pressure. It also allows the port and intake to not have to transport the fuel air mixture through the manifold and port. And by only having to move air, they can get a bigger volume of air to the chamber and then put the fuel in.

They say it is worth 40 hp but who knows.

There was an article about this technology in Race Engine Technology magazine this month.

either way, they will have to use something closer to what we have in our engine. That was our water system problem in the beginning.

thanks

Dont the Rolex Pontiac DP cars use produciton LS6 blocks and heads (albeit a bit machined)?

I wonder if the new 5.5L engine will show up in the vette and will it have even more racing tech built in to it (i.e. 6 head bolts per cyl etc..etc..).

so it sounds like DI will be legal on the smaller, less restricted engines for next year?? That's about the only thing of any use I saw in that article.
