What wheels are OK for track?
I am looking to upgrade to some track tires after 17 track days on street tires. I was looking to get some 18s all around and just switch them for the track. There are a lot of 18" wagon wheels in the For Sale section. Would these work for front and rears? I think stocks are 9.5. Is that wide enough? How do you adj TC with same size tires all around, or does it matter, seeing it is turned off at the track. TIA.

FWIW I highly recommend CCW wheels. I'll venture to say the majority of Corvette racers I know use CCW track wheels. On my C6 I use CCW C10 wheels 11" x 18" all-around. I recently tubbed my rear wheel wells so I plan to use CCW 12" rear wheels soon. Whatever wheels you use, I suggest you go wider than 9.5". I generally run in comp mode (or sometimes with all nannies off) and I've never had any issues with TC or AH.

Are the OEM Z06s wider than 9.5? I will try to research.
I know the CCWs are the best out there, but I am a once a month track day at most. Too many $$s.
Thanks.

yup, the OEM z06 wheels are great wheels and "cheap"
However, I ran, and still run Reproduction wheels, they are great. The guys from tomzwheels and houseofwheels are great.

Anyone have any thoughts on these wheels:
http://www.shop.jwmotoring.com/produ...&productId=161
$787 shipped for 4 18x10.5s seems like a pretty good deal. Just not sure about durability. Mfg give a lifetime structural warranty.

I have been scanning hard. Plus, after my intake fiasco, I am a little leary of putting used stuff on my car now. I went to the corvettetaxi.com and they want $651 for a new Z06 wheel.

With a wheel, you can see if it's been repaired (cracks filled). You can verify from the stampings that it is OEM. I think it's fine to go used in this instance.

stick with what you have or jasons used track wheels.
Used track wheels would be a good comprimse
many of those aftermarket OEM wheels are not very good, and heavy.
Then again going out and spending $2600 on a set of CCWs is not easy to do either. But inthe long run it is the right choice

there are plenty of used (street only) C5Z wheels, I wouldn't hesitate to buy any used ones (just inspect them well) Heck all mine are used.
There's a ton of waxers that like to take the 20.7 lb 18" wheels off and put on some $3000 33 lb wheels. Gladly take them off their hands.
My basement/shop/parking garage is starting to look like a Speedline and Alcoa hatchery.

I know the CCWs are the way to go. But after last mos fluke intake deal, and a $400 tow bill, I am not going back to the track without a trailer. First, I have to upgrade Dakota to Tundra, $3k. Get trailer - $5k after taxes and license. Get racing seats, ~$1k. Track tires a luxury for now, but just in case I run across some wheels, at least now I know what to look for.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Way back on your original post, you asked about wagon wheels. You can use the 18" rears on the fronts, and I've run 305s on them for years now without problems.
Not as nice as the Z06 rears, but a lot cheaper, too!
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
