Jason,

Kudo's to supporting your products with real tested data and always being straightforward. While many love to add aero parts to their cars for looks (nothing wrong with that as I love the look of your spoiler even by itself), you have supplied the required info to those that are actually looking for the give/take of aero packages. Those that race in whatever form understand giving up a few tenths in 2-3 straight-a-ways equates to gaining seconds in the curves. This package certainly will do that.

I can't wait to see painrace's car next time at the track!

Yea... I too would like to see something like this for the C5. Especially if I end up run in ST2, a spoiler something like this would be something I would be interested in.

We have no plans to develop anything for the C5 at this time.

any chance of getting the raw data (lbs). Curious how much Lift you start with, and how it converts to downforce

We are not publishing the absolute numbers because they can be easily misinterpreted or manipulated by our competition. Small things on the car can vary which affect the numbers. We did a baseline test and provided the data expressed as a percent from that baseline. The graph at the end of the report represents those absolute numbers in a visual way, but without giving the actual numbers.

Jason,

Great video and data !

Would you speculate how much front-end lift would be reduced if you had added your louvered hood to the package that had the front splitter with the underbody tray, the side skirts, and your rear spoiler?

Oh yes, what did the day at the A2 wind tunnel cost?

http://www.a2wt.com/

$345 / hr for the first 2 hours,
$490 / hr thereafter (which is also our regular pricing for all repeat visits).
Reservations require a $500 (full day) or $250 (half day or less) DEPOSIT to lock in the time, with the balance paid at the start of the test.

From there web site:

"Aerodynamic Drag:

Aerodynamic drag is a force in the opposite direction of the vehicles forward movement. You need enough power and torque to overcome this force and move the air around the vehicle. At low speeds drag is not a major concern, but as the speed increases, the aerodynamic drag will increase with the square of the speed (speed2). This means, in order to double the speed you will increase the drag force by four times.

*

If your drag force is 70 lbs at 50 mph, then the force at 100mph is 280 lbs. At 200 mph the drag force would be 1120 lbs, and so on.

Just when you get over that fact, there is one more that will really get your attention. Horsepower is affected by the speed as well, but HP = Drag force x velocity. This means as the speed increases the Horsepower required is now the cube of the speed. Every time the speed doubles the HP required to overcome the drag forces is increased by 8 times!!

*

If it requires 15 HP to overcome the drag forces at 50 mph, then it would take 120 HP to overcome the drag force at 100 mph. To reach 200 mph you would need 960 HP. 300mph would require 2700HP!! This is why you can add 50, even 100HP to your engine and not see a big gain in top speed.
"

Very Cool info.

A day in the WT could be worth more quite a bit in performance.

I agree !

The C5 is in serious need of a front fascia - front splitter combination that moves the air around the vehicle, instead of under it. We have too much front-end lift.

A front fasica - splitter similar to what was used on the C5R race cars would be a good starting point.

Those pieces and some time in the A2 wind tunnel, with a selection of rear spoilers would be very informative.

ACP makes an awesome C5 setup, in fiberglass or carbon.

A Google search did not turn up a company with ACP as its initials who manufactures C5 parts.

Help?

There are plenty of companies who are already in the C5 aero part market. We will be focusing on the C6 and C7.

We don't have any immediate tesing planned but I would not rule that out.

Yes, it would be safe to say November for the undertray and brake ducts.

Default Justifying cost of aero package?

I don't think your testing report mentions anything about car speed at which the aero package begins to produce a significant speed/control advantage. In trying to justify the cost of the package, can you make some comments, speculative or otherwise, about the speed range in which the two best aero packages are creating an observable speed/control enhancement?
