Default Hoosiers for 1st time in Cold ???

I will be trying out Hoosier R6's for the first time at VIR, Nov. 16/17. It could be cool or even cold. Will I have any problems or issues getting tires up to operating temperatures on a cold track or with cold ambient temperatures? May be the wrong time to use Hoosiers for the first time. What say you?

They will be hard first lap out.

Be super careful 1st lap... be careful 2nd lap... 3rd... let her rip.

Most will start their start pressures higher in the cold.

Thanks for the tips. Got any tips on actual tire pressure or a psi range for these Hoosiers on a C6 Z06? I will be running 295/30-18 (front) and 345/35-18 (rear).

I run those exact sizes. Frank Gonzalez and I run 28 lb front and 26 lb rear. Sometimes a little lower (26 front, 24 rear) Shoot for hot pressures in the mid to upper 30's.

One more question on this. Do you always run 2 psi more in the front, even when tires are up to temp? Say tires are warmed up and you would have 37 psi front and 35 psi rear. Would that be what you are shooting for?

Hey Howard, Wish I was going with you two to VIR. I had a little Bo Bo there last week with the cobra club. Good luck with the r6's I am sure you will do fine. Ben

Hello Ben, I saw where you were on the registered list for the TrackDaze event and then later you were not on the list. Col. Dave said you had a mishap at VIR. How long you figure you're out of service?

What do you guys think of going with an A6 instead of R6?

Don't A6s heat up faster since they are more for autocross?
I was thinking of going to A6s for time trials and using older R6s for DEs.

I agree with you ryan0. I usually take 2 laps to warm up my tires.
Someone told me braking heats up the tires faster than weaving side to side like some people do. I get on/off the brakes several times on pit out and on first few straights to get brakes warmed up and (hopefully) warm up tires.

I'm no expert by any stretch. I'll defer to those on here with more experience.

I like you am no expert either, still learning myself. I'll let others chime in hear for your questions on A6's vs. R6's etc. But, I aree with you about warming tires up. I think that weaving side to side helps heat tires some but I think weaving side to side has more to do with cleaning off the tires.
