Gaming system in lue of a Blu Ray player?
Gaming systems are cheaper than stand alone Blu Ray players.
So it makes better sense to get one of those
Or does it?
If so, which one has better racing simulators?
I'd like to practice track run in the winter.
(Hence the post here)

PS3 is the one with the blue ray but X-box 360 is what you want for Forza 2 & 3.
Everyone I know that has PS3 & X-Box 360 never plays the PS3, X-box live(online play) is way better than PS3 version.

I bought the PS3 to use mainly as a blu-ray player. I own the Gran-Turismo series and find it to be just as good as Forza as far as physics. It comes down to personal preferance I guess.

I also got the PS3 to use for movies. I do play some GT and picked up a steering wheel.

The PS3 is considered a "reference quality" Blu-ray player... and also one of the best up-converting DVD players on the market (if use's all it CPU horsepower to upconvert DVD's to produce amazing PQ). It has blown away $1000+ Blu-ray players in AV Mag tests.

BestBuy had a sale on BluRay players last night $99
I picked one up.
Along with $250 worth of movies
Man what a difference!
and the upconverting feature makes my old DVD's play nice, not as nice as the BluRay's obviously, but at least their not all pixalated like they were before.
Even try a beat up DVD, which kept hanging on my DVD player, this thing played it just fine.

Same here, ps3 and xbox. I play forza on xbox and just watch movies on ps3. Check out the last issue of PCMag at the newstand. Good article on wireless movie feeds and TV hookups. Whatever is working well for you this year will be outdated next year!

The new Bluray players have come down in price alot but if you like gameing then a PS3 is not a bad investment i bought one shortly after them came out from a kid that needed money bad so i paid the same price as what a PS3 is new now as so i got the reverscapatiblity to play my ps2 games only downer is that it dosen't have wireless and it only had a 20g hardrive but i have updated that to a 512g hard drive now.

I own both PS3 and X-box 360. My PS3 is used predominately as a Blu-Ray player, which just happens to play games. It's cool that you can also buy and download movies directly from Sony.
If you want a Blu-Ray player that plays games I would recommend it highly. If your looking for a superior gaming platform, that would be the XB360.

I don't have any game systems but if you want racing have you checked out iracing.com?
They try to keep it realistic. You can race w2w or time trials.
Competing against people all over the world. Many NASCAR drivers are racing in the oval series. They also have road course series.
All you need is a computer, internet, and wheel/pedals.
I'm having lots of fun with it. I've been racing the Solstice but recently moved over to Star Mazda. The C6R is coming out pretty soon. I still suck at it but having fun. I'm running on tracks I'll probably never see in my lifetime. But if I do I will have an idea how it is laid out.
I ran Texas Motor Speedway ROVAL in August - at night. I practiced on iracing.com before I went. I think it helped alot especially being able to see the track in daylight and trying different lines to see what works better.
It costs about $15/mo for the service.

PS3 is great for Blu-ray, gaming, and media streaming (I use Play-on). There are a few audio codecs that it doesn't support internally (must bitstream to an external receiver), but otherwise it is an awesome Blu-ray player. It boots very fast, and discs load very fast.
