ASP car stock bushings...upgrade poly ?
Hey all....
I have a ASP autox car.....weight about 2885 with a couple of gallons of gas without me. Car makes a little under 400 rwhp.
It's a 2004 C5Z06 with about 2900 miles----I bought it new at the end of 03. Been running the car at autox's since I put 90 miles on it in the first week of ownership.
VBP front spring......295/18/30 A6 and 315/30/18 A6 on stock rear Z06 wheels..........
Ok my question is should I replace the stock OEM bushings with the VBP poly busing kit, as I bought this kit over a year and a half ago, and never bothered to put it in. (that's my question)
Will the handling be worse than my stock 6 year old bushings ? Or hopefully better ?
Opinions ?

Poly bushings are a good thing. You will be able to run less static negative camber and have better transient response. If you do it before the stock bushings extrude or do it on new control arms you will have more caster and that also helps with needing less static negative camber. Lower static negative camber means better braking so that's the payoff.

I am going to use my "old" control arms....is that so bad ?

No, not bad, but you might lose some caster compared to where you would be with new control arms. You could calculate what the difference is, but it is probalby only about 2 degrees or so of caster, so it isn't likely a big deal. So long as you can still get 6 or 7 degrees you are fine.
I just like to max out caster for autocross cars since it pays off at high steering angles that you see in slow corners. It comes from having a C4 for a long time that couldn't get enough negative camber, and caster really helped that car a lot.

Dave,
You needed bushings when I had the car here in 05-06....whenever that was...
I bet your front upper control arms are bent at thier mounting to the frame (inner pick-up dimension reduced ) from the pounding the uppers take with stock bushings

You think I should get new control arms ?
Would it be ok to use my old ones....the ones that are currently on the car.
AND which arms would you suggest I replace ?
Thanks,
David
PS......thanks for any opinions but my stubborn head might stick with the old arms.......
EVEN USING THE old ARMS.....do you think I would notice an improvement ??
thanks again......Danny, Manny.....et. al.........

David the rest of your control arms should be OK , but if your upper front control arm bushings are extruded it is likely that your upper control arms have bent towards each other where the bushings go through....this will also cause bind in the new urethene bushings in these bent arms because the front and rear of the control arm at those points will not be parallel......
