Default C6 ZR-1 Brakes

I'm looking at GM parts direct and I see the front ZR-1 brake calipers listed fro $420 a piece for the front and $322 for the rear. $1500 or so seems like a hell of deal for top of the line Brembo calipers. What am I missing here?
The carbon rotors are over $1k/piece but that's to be expected. If you can get these calipers with some non carbon rotors, you can have a relatively inexpensive top of the line brakes system. Even with the Carbon rotors, I'm only coming up with about $5k for the ZR-1 complete brake package without pads.

GM Part numbers

25923821 driver's side front brake caliper
25923822 passenger's side front brake caliper
25923832 driver's side rear brake caliper
25923833 passenger's side front brake caliper

Thoughts?

Don't waste your time and money.....There are MUCH better braking options out there right now for those that track the cars.

Not top of the line, but lowest bidder may be more like it.

for $5K there are a few far better options

Why would you say that? I figure if it's good enough for million dollar cars like the Veyrons and the Enzos, it would be good system.

Here is a brief overview:

The NAME does NOT make the Brake Caliper good.

and those are NOT the same caliper, just the same manufacture.

and street brakes ARE NOT THE SAME AS racing calipers. ( didn't we just have a thread about this ?)

and personally I dont like BIG Red for their brakes. Driven many many different cars with different brake caliper. brake pad combos, many from big red. Those were my least favorite bake calipers. Even the GTR caliper was just OK, not great for MY driving / braking style.

APRacing, Alcon or StopTech over Brembo

One needs to match your brake calipers, pads and rotors to YOUR CAR and YOUR drving style. NOT what is on Million dollar cars or some PR / adverting crap

* YES I have driven the ZR1 on VIR and Road America. Into T5 at Road America I thought the ZR1 would never stop / slow enough to make the corner. Yet the C6Z06 with StopTech brakes would out brake and catch the ZR1 every time into T1, T5 and T12 at Road America

I drove the ZR1 in Forza III on Road Atlanta and it stops like I threw out an anchor. I would do anything to get those brakes on my track car.

Carbon rotors and brake pads for the street and for racing are not the same.

I have been getting ZR1 backordered parts fairly frequently. I can place the order and let you know.

Not to be a wise guy or anything, but could it possibly have anything to do with the fact you just might have been carrying 2 or 3 $hitloads more speed into the braking zone with the ZR1...? Just a thought...

Nope.

into Road America T5 was 165 mph and braked at 5 marker. The ZR1 just would not stop well.

The Z06 with StopTech Brakes and Colbalt pads had no problems

anybody ever weighed the brake hardware on the ZR1?

i was amazed at the weight of the rear wheels/tires some of the guys were posting when swapping on Z06 rims/drag radials.

Like I already said, it is a low-torque setup designed for street usage. However, at VIR they stopped the car I drove just fine from 170+. Would they hold up to 30minutes of duty on R rated tires (or slicks).........? Don't know.....

I know in my case, ever time I jump into a car on street tires (like the ZR1's we all drove), it makes the brakes seem crappy because the tires have no grip. The ZR1 I drove had no trouble locking the tires (ABS active throughout brake zone)

Isn't it really about the pad. I would bet the ZR1 brake system would be as good as any with a hardcore racing pad. I am sure the car didn't want to stop with a street pad. I personally think the undisputable downside are the cost of rotors and it looks like you need a 19" wheel to fit it.
