Default Swapping springs...tech question

A good friend of mine was gracious enough to DONATE his set of OE C5 coupe springs for my track obsession.

Question is this. What's the best way to maintiain the current ride height since I'm going to swap the adjusters?
The spring rate will be slightly lower, but I'm guesing that won't be a real issue.
Do you guys paint the adjuster bolts or wrap it with tape or something?

I measure the height (to the tip of bolt) and reinstall them at the same height

I'm not sure I totally understand the question, but with any threaded bolt, you can screw it all the way in and count the turns back out.

If it's actual RIDE height, then measure a fixed point (fender, frame rail, whatever) and readjust after installing the new springs and driving a few miles.

Why are you installing softer springs??

Thanks guys. David - I have to swap to a C5 base model spring to run in NASA's TTB class. My '99 FRC Z51 is not allowed to run the Z51 suspension in TTB since it's base class is TTA. But....Varkwso kindly convinced the national TT director that a FRC should be able to compete in TTB if a base suspension was installed.
I'm hoping to make it to Road Atlanta next month for a shot at some free tires.

That's definately the plan, but I feel pretty certain that I'd have no shot at winning a set of tires in TTA at RA. TTB will be a short lived venture as it's not really where I want to be, but as we all know tires win races and I'll need a fresh set to be competitive in TTA.

that is an interesting competition strategy.......... Seems like simply SKIPPING the event would save enough money to but Half of a set of tires...........

If I had a base C5 or a stock FRC (demodded) I would run it in TTB - all the time. The E46 M3 will be the only serious comp I think...

but what fun is that, a 3 night late thrash changing composite leaf springs is more enjoyable

Darn you - my slow underpowered C4 runs in TTB
I'm going to try and keep it in TTB for next year, playing with a few things since it has the Z07 suspension and that is 6 or 7 points (I forget, have to look whatever springs, shocks and swaybars comes out to)

Hope to see you at Road Atlanta in Dec!

You're right. A BMW E46 M3 turned a 1:38.2 last year in the blistering heat. That's pretty darn quick for TTB.
