Default One more trailer question folks

I just received my CAD drawing from Pace for my new trailer.
I had spec'd the foldable tire rack to be over the curbside wheel well. It was placed on drivers side in the very back. Any thoughts on where the best place to put it? putting it towards the back would offset some weight in the front. Left vs Right, front/back? I sure don't know.

Thanks,

John

I don't see any "E" track on the drawing, aren't you getting any of that? That track can be very, very useful.

I'm going to put it in myself. I just could not decide where. I figure it will sort out after I load the trailer and experiment with things.

anywhere on the drivers side will be inconvenient to load or unload your car...I have a 48` and the tire rack is over the RH fender.

That's where I would put it.

One thing bad about having it on the drivers side is that is the side you are most likely to want to get into the car if you need something or the steer it into the trailer. And you would have to manuver around the tire rack. I like over the curb side wheel well. Just my .02 JD

The good thing about the factory putting it in is that they will put it right up against the framing as compared to when you do it the vinyl/plywood will be between the track and frame.

Just have them put a band of it all the way around the inside of the trailer about 40" to 46" high. That way it's always where you want it.

It shouldn't be a problem on the drivers side since you don't have a driver escape door on the road side of the trailer.

I have a 22' trailer and end up putting my tires in behind the car to help off set the weight of my stuff in the front.

Car hauler trailers can be very weight sensitive regarding tongue weight, your car should sit centered above the axles.

What are you towing with?

I had them move it to the curb side over the wheel well. Thanks for the input. I should have it around the first of the year. Can't wait to start getting it just right.

And all this started with an "innocent" autocross class 5 years ago. My wife really doesn't like you guys.

Definitely go back and ask them to install E-track on the floor. It's much easier to tie the car down with e-track and you won't be tripping over straps attached to D-rings.

Also consider the escape door on the left side; it will be a lot easier to exit the car once it's driven in and you want to get out.

I've never liked side-mount tire racks......I hate to have all of that load just hanging off of one side (especially since I prefer aluminum trailers). I use E-track with Shoring beams mounted across the width of the trailer. I can get 16 tires across 3 beams (2 rows sharing the middle beam), and it's just high enough that I can drive under them.

No matter where you mount tires, they are ALWAYS in the way at some time or another!

I'm sure there will be things that I "wished I had done" but considering this is just a "casual" hobby for me, I'm just thrilled to have the CFO sign off on this! I just LOVE early Christmas presents.

I did have to get her a housekeeper in return. I'm thinking this worked out okay for me.

I agree 100%. My Pace using "hat" style uprights. Fine for normal use, but when you put a tire rack on them the walls will bow. Shoring beams a great...

Not to hijack the thread, but David Farmer, do you have a picture of how the tire racks work in your trailer? I can't quite picture it, and I'm trailer shopping too. Thanks. Ed

Here's how I have the shoring beams with tires in my trailer. I'm sure David's are similar:

My factory pace tire rack did not fare so well. I dunno if they have changed the design, but it actually ripped out. Covered under warranty, but they ended up rebolting it using the trailer frame on top.

This was how it was:

I'd also add a spare tire door on floor in FRONT of the car. Maybe add more D-rings to the floor also.

High much more to upgrade from 13.5 to 15k BTU AC?
