that looks like a good deal, firewall, floor, and rear tub seem to be intact.

I wish I could build another car right now..........

Wow, now THAT was a fire. Looks like they had to replace the windshield frame, tub, both pieces of the firewall, both pieces of the rain gutter, and maybe both floors. Not to mention cleaning that mess up (ask me how I know about that). $5K seems high for just a shell, but jeez, they've got to have that much or more in it.

I'm curious why they would go thru all that trouble just to sell it. Racecar project put on hold?

I'm not a metallurgist, but what happens to the metal strength/tempering during a fire like that? With some of the original metalwork missing (did it have an aluminum windshield frame or something??), I'm assuming the temperatures got reasonably hot.
Just makes me a bit uncomfortable.
Somebody educate me here.

I have bought a frame from the seller listed in the fleabay auction about 5 years ago. He was a stand up guy, and usually calls me when he has one.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. Didn't LG build theirs on the same frame after the Boris situation?

What do you mean bent?

Is it usable? What would be required?

Race car project.

would be perfect for a race car. if I had more time I would. I considered building my own jig using my 01 for the suspension pick ups, and fixing this one to match.

needs either a driver's side frame rail, or repair the old one depending your preference (welded frame or whole new rail). frame took a hit to the driver's door frame rail (on the vertical windshield post area) and that's where it's bent. the front tub however, is still intact and in good shape, as is the rear tub, upper and lower.

needs a driver's floor, and windshield frame if you plan to use an OEM windshield. the rocker on the passenger side is already in place, and in perfect shape.

pics in the above thread if needed.

I know where there are a couple brand new, never used C6 frames, that could probably be purchased. PM if you want details.

I agree that this looks like a good project car, BUT being exposed to heat hot enough to melt the aluminum a-pillar certainly could have changed the stiffness of the cold-hydro-formed frame rails

Dave,

It won't change the stiffness, the modulus will stay the same. The strength might be degraded since it could be annealed now, but the stiffness isn't going to change. May or may not be an issue depending on how much stress you are going to put into the frame. For street use, it probably won't make any difference. How straight it is remains the real question.
