Raceway property auctioned for $800
High Rock NC Race track Maybe History
"A grading contractor submitted the winning bid of $800 for the 200 acres of High Rock Properties, site of a planned world-class road course in Spencer NC.
Donald Rand, a principle in Spinnaker General Contractors, of Mount Ulla, edged out Harold Arthurs of East Ritchie Road, who wanted it for pasture land for his cows.
In the forced sale at the Rowan County courthouse Friday morning, Rand had the highest bid for the property, which comes with $4.5 million in liens and encumbrances."

I was following High Rock Raceway after I ran into an advertisement in a magazine. It was to be located between Charlotte and Greensboro just off highway 85. The track was to be 2.15 miles with the ability to divide it into two seperate tracks so dual events could be held. Elliott Forbes-Robinson was involved with the track design. The main track had 3 decent straights so it afforded more than one passing zone, which is a problem with many current track designs. The ad that I saw said the Race Condos and Memberships were going fast. Their website is www.racehighrock.com and its still up.

Yes, 100 some ppl are now ( or most likely) out their $20-$25,000 condo & membership deposits,
"More than 100 people from across the country had paid $20,000 to $25,000 for memberships and the right to buy a townhouse."

I live in the area and have been following High Rock for a couple of years and go by the site about every six months to take pics. I even went to one of the public hearings on zoning a couple of years ago. Such a sad waste to see it turn out this way.

When that wasn't going to be built, I got my entire deposit back. No interest but I really didn't care.

I have a corvette worth of investment in a track project in Pa. called Alpine. i am not investing in a track to make money, but to have a top quality circuit close to my home with almost unlimited access for driving. We have struggled for 5 years to build this circuit. The bumps in the road to building are endless. You wouldn't believe some of what we have had to deal with here in America. No one will loose money on reservation deposits- it is escrowed, ( like Morgantown). We investors will loose everything if we do not build . I can relate to the above story.
