ZR1 Trans. in a C6 Z06
Anyone drop in a ZR1 close ratio transmission in a C6 Z06 who regularly tracks their car? Just wondering if the cost would be justified in a "seconds per lap/$" benefit. Assuming the durabilty of the stock Z06 trans. is sufficient are you better off changing the stock ratios (if that's possible) or purchasing a ZR1 trans.? What would be the cost of a ZR1 trans.?

The boxes that LG has no worky in a C6....
As far as the ZR1 trans into C6Z goes, seems like a good idea to me although this will not be cheap proposition and it actually would be better suited with a little more rear ratio....
You can buy this gearbox over your friendly GM parts counter for somewhere around ~4.5k..............

Ask Lou what he put in Jim Mcnemar's 08 Z06. He does NOT have a 6 speed in his car... I thought they sold him one of their boxes and it works just fine in his car.

First, the 6060 trans is a much stronger and smoother shifting trans than the 5060.
Second, RPM gets some of their customer gears from Liberty Gear here in Michigan. I had Libery change the 6th gear changed in my MN6. EXPENSIVE!
Third, the entire gearset in the ZR1 6060 is a close ratio set. Changing 6th gear alone would be useless. Changing all of your 5060 gears would be more expensive than purchasing a new ZR1 trans.

As far as the ZR1 unit goes....we are dropping one in along with the ZR1 diff in a twin turbo Z06 here at the shop. It can be done, just depends on what you are looking for, strength and gearing or just gearing. If you are just wanting the gearing changes there are less expensive ways of doing it then going with the entire ZR1 unit.
Remember also if you do the diff you have to have a 2009 or newer rear cradle to mount it to.

Couple different options.
1. Buy a stock GM ZR1 tranny. These should bolt directly to a OE Z06 diff unit. If you are doing both the diff and the tranny you will need a 2009-current rear cradle just to mount the diff.
2. You can do a fully built RPM ZR1 tranny for a few dollars more with all of the standard upgraded parts
3. You can take one of our GM race boxes and use a C6 tail housing, with a little modifications use with a C6Z diff as well.
