Default In-car camera and data question (GoPro)

Posting here since my question is race related.
I am looking at getting the GoPro Motorsports HD for an in-car camera. I would also like to be able to see track layout etc...
Is there a software that will allow me to use my own video from my camera and capture all the data from the race/run? Looking for track layout, position on track, G's...etc.

You have to manually sync the video and data with a program like dashware or trackvision . this software will overlay the data on the video.Or you will have to buy a system that will do this live like the new data module from Chase cam.

Talk to Jason on the board here...he has a VERY cool incar camera system on his Z06 that has almost better quality than what we use in the race car. We have been using Chase Cam setups in the race car for some time now. Very easy system to use as well.

His screen name is jmorgan07Z06 on the board. You can see some of his vid's here from his YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/user/Z06no881

I have a Chase cam in addition to using the GoPro

Just ordered the Chase cam data system that will automatically synch and put data on the video. I cannot wait to try it.

Should be very very simple from this point on

Where are folks getting the GoPro these days? Not to hi-jack but I wouldn't mind a video cam if I can mount it on suction cups.

None of them are cheap the software alone is around $150. I spent over $2000 on my system. I have a Chasecam with a Race Technology DL1 I then have to manually sync them with trackvision software. Here is an example of the finished product

Bought my GoPro camera from Pep Boys. Cost $199.99 plus tax. Came with all the mounts, but I had to buy the 2GB cards.

All this stuff seems stupidly expensive.

I know guys who use a $100 video camera and a $14 application on a GPS+accelerometer-equipped smartphone to put together basically the same thing, eg:

(^^ this uses a performancebox, but it can be done with an iphone or an android phone, etc)

The overlay software is a hand-made weekend job and is as rough as one would expect. But one day someone is going to come along, do a bit of more serious software development and basically wipe all these products off the map.

Everything about the GoPro is crap except their marketing department. Save your money and time.

I wasn't going to give my 2 cents here but since you gave yours I will give mine. I have the latest gopro and also upgraded it to the 4MB capacity. Pure crapola ; all hype. The case and mount are great but the camera is stupid junk. Yes it works but so does an old vw. Cant wait to sell it and get anything else!!!!!

Totally agree. Horrible microphone, can't change focus aperture, fish-eye lens has too wide a field of view. I bought one last season, used it to video our HPDE's. Although the case is good for all weather (outdoor mounts) video. Get yourself a true video camera.

I could not agree more....I originally bought the non-wide and non-HD then traded up to the HD-Wide and was equally disappointed.....another POS from China!!!

This was a local (dbratten) who took a vid of his car at Laguna Seca. I believe it's the new GoPro HD.

as you can see in the video a large portion of the dash is visable. This means the camera was actually pointed down eliminating the sky. When you think you have it pointed straight ahead you are actually filming alot of sky which messes up the focus. Since there is no way to see this before downloading its trial and error. Yes the icons on the miniature screen suck and you would have to use this camera alot to get ok with it. I have the gopro wide motorsports for sale for $100 if anyone feels frisky. pm or email.
