Default Kirkey Seat question

Will an 18 inch Kirkey Intermediate Road Race Seat fit in a C-5 Z06?
I thought I've read that 17 was the widest possible.

Thanks

I've got a 17 inch Ultrashield and there is enough room for an 18. I think the Ultrashields and Kirkeys are the same or at least a similar constructed seat. So should work

I have 17 or 17-1/2 (I forget now) Road Race Deluxe in my C5 Coupe. I am pretty sure that is the limit

I kave an 17 and think there is room for an 18 my fingers fit anywhere on each side of the seat. Hardbar makes great seat rails and he will know PM him if he doesn't chime in.

Thanks all for the responses. I'm going to call Gary at Hardbar, I was planing on using his rails anyway.

I am going out to my car now to see how much room there is and to get the seat size.

BTW - Gary's rails are sweet

I know the 17" will fit as well. I did a 18" in a C6 a while back, but it is very tight fit. I believe we made our own brackets when we did that particular car.

Might have to move the left side wings on the seat in a little bit.

I checked and mine are 17in Road Race Deluxe in my 01 C5 Coupe.

I took some quick pictures:

between the seat and the door rail seems to be plenty of room

but if you look further there is little room between the hardbar rails and the seatbelt

And here on the tunnel side it is snug to say the least.

Gary though would be the one to ask.

I ran a 17 inch Ultrashield in my C5. As shown above with the seat mounted on top of Gary's rails there was very little room between the outside rail and the seat belt mount. If you had to drop the seat down between the rails to gain headroom you wouldn't be able to run more than a 16 inch seat.

I run a 17"(kirkey road race deluxe) sitting in between hardbar rails with no problem. The rear mounts of the seat are bolted direclty to the rails.

The 18" Kirkey Intermediate Road Race Seat will NOT fit in a stock C5 Z06 with the door panels installed on the car. I ordered a 17" and 18" to see how each fit in my 2004 C5 Z06. I was hoping to be able to use the 18" seat, but it would NOT fit and the driver's door would NOT close. I actually mounted my 17" Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seat on a factory power seat base which worked out great. My wife and I both drive the car and we needed easy & quick adjustability for moving the seat. The power seat memory settings still worked also. We also used a 6 point harness with the Brey Krause harness bar for the shoulder belts and the Vetteworks-Hardbar Lap Belt Bar for the lap & anti-sub belts. Hope that helps.

David,

Here is a post of my 17" Kirkey seat install. I went with the Kirkey after trying to install a Sparco 3X that would not fit. Good luck!

is the base the problem or the upper wings? You could bend n the upper wings.

Len and all!

Thanks for all the information. The reason I asked about the 18 inch is there is a store in New Jersey that has a black pair of intermediate on closeout. After reading about all the experiences it seems 18's are out.
I called the store yesterday and they have a Gray pair of Deluxe Road Race on clearance also. My name is on them now and I'm waiting for shipping charges.

I went ahead with the better seat on both sides so they match and I want to make my instructors comfortable while I put them to sleep with my old guy driving skills.

Thanks all I'll keep you posted with the install!

I have 18" Kirkey intermediates on both driver and passenger sides in my 2000 frc. They fit fine with the door panels in place (shoulder wings had to be bent in slightly, but are still plenty open enough for my much wider than average shoulders) but the outboard seat/shoulder belts had to be removed. The seat base does not fit between the center tunnel and seatbelt retractor spool, but fits nicely with the spool removed.

Thanks for the information. I ended up ordering two 17 Road race deluxe seats.
