Default Gen V LSx comes to race cars, is it the right thing for the C7?

Part of me embraces the new technology, but I would like to see a 5.7 liter LSx engine return to the Corvette with DI and higher compression I am sure it could produce at least 480 hp for the C7 Corvette.

This is good thing! The just put out a 3.5 or 3.9 I can't remember with all the latest in injection and camshaft stuff. The thing cranks out 300 horsepower, not bad for a mini van or whatever. I ask one thing of GM, don't make it a pain to work on and/or modify. People let to upgrade, help them!!!

I would really like to see a lighter car paired with a DI V8. If you could get a vette under 3000 pounds and get a 5.5L V8 pushing 430-440 conservatively speaking, you would have one bad machine! I like where this may be going!

We have 3.0L engines making 250HP so 450 would fit the equation. The question in torque. All the new DI engines are DOHC. I would like to see what a DI pushrod motor could do.

the Badass 327 returns!

lets see 12 to 1 compression, direct injection, variable camshaft, 8 6 4 cylinder timing for 40+ MPG and 300 pounds lighter and michelin or goodyear racing DOT slicks stock

Oh yeah baby! A custom tune and this thing will scream!

I don't think the new engine is moving in the right direction. I like the massive low-end torque in my 6.0 liter. You can't get that from a smaller engine.

Germans tend to frown and Americans always smile, in general

You may not be able to get the powerband of a larger engine but with higher compression comes higher torque typically. I personally think they should bring out a 5.7 liter direct injected V8 with 12 to 1 CR and a 7000 rpm redline. It should be able to put out 470-480 hp and 450 lb ft I would assume.

Who needs massive torque if you're lightweight?

Just make the damn cars lighter. With all the technology available I cant believe cars are just getting heavier. The current pony cars are near two tons now! A 3500lb mustang is considered light! Any V8 sportscar should not have a problem coming off the assembly line weighing 3000lbs and that should leave a lot of room for improvement if someone decides to transform one into a race car.

They should make the next Corvette 2700 lbs. The Camaro should weigh around 3200 and the CTS-V should be 3500 at the most. I would also like to see a 5.7 direct injected engine but make it like the old CTS-VR engine. A big bore (7.0l block) short stroke high revving screamer.

Smaller & lighter & 5.7 DI would be sweet, but don't count on it. I don't figure anyone at GM has got a clue. Or the few that do can't sell it to top brass.

Something like a GT3 RS with a bunch of delete options & lightweight bits would rock.

ZR1 is a beautiful exercise, but price point got out of range for most of us.

I'm watching this thread and thinking back to 1992 when the 3rd gen RX7 was replacing the 2nd gen RX7 TurboII... the car got lighter, got more power, and got way sexy on styling. Even the seemingly porky RX8 is right at 3000#s now... if only they had the V8!

I supposed we ought to be thankful that gm still produces a pushrod motor. One hell of a motor too! Simplicity seems to cure just about everything.

I was down on DI for the lack of tuneability and big hp without auxillary injectors....until I saw some of the tuning devices coming out over the next couple years and a few other ways to remove the contraints. Love the Cam phasing to be sure. This is a good thing...we're just going to have to go back to school for a while..that's all.

Is the DOHC really less reliable? I know bigger & heavier and I would not swear to the torque comparison.

I like the idea of going lighter. They could make the car smaller. I never agreed with making the C5 so much larger than a C4.

2700-2800 lb with even 405 hp whether a V8 or V6 would be great. Tradition is tradition, but I don't care how many cylinders if it puts out the torque at low rpm and has good power. Light weight is more important.
