Default 2010 Upgrade & Maintenance

I didn't run my 1999 FRC Track Car much in 2009. That's about to change. After careful consideration, the car is in UPGRADE mode with new aero being added front and rear:

The new front facia and molded/tunneled splitter was made by Blackdog Racing in Lincolnshire, IL. The facia is a Carbon Fiber/Fiberglass combination, and a new offering from Blackdog. The splitter is all Carbon Fiber, and will withstand the downforce added without issue.

The Carbon Fiber Rear Wing is provided by LG Motorsports, and at 68" wide, it will offer the downforce and control necessary to get through the twisties a little quicker.

The new wing will be supported by custom fabricated, adjustable uprights made by Blackdog Racing. Each turn of the screw will provide exactly 1-degree of surface movement. Very cool!

As is typical of any upgrade, once you get in there you find issues not expected, or even related to the upgrade. I'm grateful to Ray Sorensen and crew from Blackdog in going the extra mile, and making sure that my car is ready, safe, and well sorted on day one.

More pics, and info. to follow:

I Like the looks of carbon fiber! I assume you are painting the front but will you be leaving the wing CF?

You are correct. I am painting the front facia, but leaving the splitter in CF. The wing will also remain in CF.

I'll post more pics as we make progress.

It's a great looking shop. Set up like an F1 garage. Owned by Tony Gaples from Blackdog Racing.

Aren't you Johnny on the Spot . . . motor will be the last step in this effort to gain speed, and reduce lap times. The new aero should get me through the turns a bit faster, but I recognize the potential to lose some time down the straights. I expect to exit quicker, and ultimately reduce times . . . . that is right after I remember how to drive this thing. Last season was 95% Miata (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I expect to run the Vette in a few SCCA events, NASA, Autobahn CC and NCM (VIR this year).

Katech is top of the list for the motor (when the time comes)!

Very nice aero upgrades! I'm looking forward to reading your impressions during the NCM VIR event this year. I'm also considering options to make minor improvements to my aerodynamics, such as the APR Performance GTC-300 Adjustable Wing. I'll have to take a closer look at the LG Motorsports wing too.

Mike, you're fast enough, you don't need it.

If only I could do a "mind meld" with you Mike to place all your road racing knowledge into my brain - then I might be fast enough

Hey Don! I love your approach to your track car. Simple, proven, reliable, fast. each step is calculated. I love it!

You are in good hands with the guys at Black Dog tell Ray I say hello! At least the shop looks cozy, safe from the nasty weather!

Anthony, you and I talked by telephone after you responded to my forum post about wings. I looked at ALOT of wing options, and the LG Motorsports wing was exactly what I was looking for. Now that I've seen it in person, I'm even more impressed. Ray Sorenson and crew will be custom fabricating the adjustable mount to meet my requirement that the wing be 'frame mounted', and adjustable.

This is my first experience with Blackdog, and it's been impressive since the first conversation!

Mike Newlander (Short-Throw) has been hounding me for years to join him on the annual trek to VIR. The combination of the 4th of July timing and a poor tow vehicle have kept me away.

This year is in June, and I just bought a Dually . . . VIR HERE I COME!

Louis, if we had nice weather year round', I'd have no time or money left over to do upgrades . . . I love subzero.

BTW: The LG Motorsports Wing looks great!
