Default New Viper ACR-X at Sebring Today

Dodge ran the new Viper ACR-X at Sebring today during the PBOC Winterfest event. It's basically a gutted (lost 160 pounds, net) and caged ACR with improved aero, 40 more horsepower (headers and tune), forged pistons and Michelin slicks. Not street legal. Kuno Wittmer did a 2.08.692 and was outqualified by only a couple of Elans and the Riley Track Day car. I think it was a couple of seconds faster than Sonny Whelens Speed World Challenge Corvette. They are selling this car for $110,000 unpainted. That's a pretty incredible performance value! I'd love to see Chevrolet sell something like this.

Very impressive and thanks for posting. As a point of reference/interest, do you know what the time was for the Riley Track Day Car?

I don't know the Riley's fastest lap yesterday but I believe it has run in the 2.06 range at Sebring in the past (would be faster with a pro). Yesterday the two cars started 3 and 4 behind the Elans. I think they qualified within a second of each other. Within the next few days the results should be posted on mylaps.com.

Lotus Elans? I know you're being sarcastic and I'm not trying to take anything away from the Riley TDC. I love Richie's car and I know it's not quite fair to compare a "real" car to a sports racer. PBOC races them all together however and it's a good thing otherwise Richie would be out there by himself.

Sounds like a great car any pic's?

GM is selfish and dumb when it comes to racing.

Not sarcastic, just curious (and probably looking like a dumbarse now), the old Lotus is the only "Elan" I'm familiar with. Someone making a sports racer called the Elan now?

From Wiki:
"Élan Motorsport Technologies is an umbrella company containing the race car manufacturing companies owned by the Panoz Motor Sports Group. Élan designs and builds Panoz-branded race cars, and have also acquired other manufacturers, including famous Formula Ford builders Van Diemen and IndyCar Series constructor G-Force. Élan-built cars now race in the American Le Mans Series, Le Mans Series, IMSA Prototype Lites (formerly IMSA Lites) and other championships throughout the world."

Doh. Well I knew about EMT, actually interviewed for them a few years back, I just think of the cars as Esperantes, DP02, superleague, and then all the Van Diemen cars.

I think the car looks best in plain red with no stripes...

We come pretty close to that, with a few things left off the build we could be damn close on price. If we went less on safety, nevermind
