Default ASA LS1 Engine

Back in 2000 GM Powertrain created a new LS1 for the American Speed Association. The engines were built by GM Powertrain and then shipped to Lingenfelter for completion. I think about 300 of these engines were built.

Here's a page with the basics.

Many of them are still running, and running well in our GTA cars running with the V8 StockCar series. Some of the competitors are still using motors that have yet to be rebuilt after three plus years road racing them
plus what ever hours they had on them in ASA. Very durable and torquey,
make good road race power.

They have 430 + very healthy horsepower.

It's amazing that the Corvette community hasn't heard much about these engines. They put out a lot of reliable horsepower for a very modest price.

I've heard that there were 300 built. They're probably all still running someplace.

I actually thought you could still buy the ASA motors, I think they're the spec motor in the local Modified class. One of the garages around here had a car and was talking about his "new" motor a couple years ago...

They are probably talking about the chevy 604, 400 hp crate motor that is the spec motor for some ASA classes. Those are conventional type 23 degree motors.

The Lingenfelter motors ran in the ASA Delco National tour circa 2000-2004.

You could easily build the same thing. Take a LS1 or LS6 long block,
add the GM ASA hot cam, add the ATI balancer, the Moroso or ARE oil pan, and the scavenge only dry sump system and a good set of headers.

I just used CF Member Everett Ogilvie's old LS6, converted it to Carburetor, put in the ASA cam and oil system. It goes on the dyno Monday. Will go in my ASA Delco type road race stock car.

we talked about the A LOT back when it happened.....it was basically the World Challenge engine of the early 00's, BUT we had to build our own using the GM parts. We did also get to upgrade to the CNC's heads however. And the 2nd generation 606 cam was much better.

David, do you know if the 606 WC cam works in a stock long block?

If you are talking stock long block, with stock pistons no. PTV clearance issues.
