R888 vs. 555RII in the rain for autox
I did a search and several people have successfully run the R888 as a rain autox tire, in fact a member of my local club drives his Elise on R888s daily, but I couldn't find any info on the 555RII. Has anyone tried them, and are they comparable? The Nittos seem to be cheaper, but not even Nitto's own website mentions their prowess in the rain. I run a C5Z in SS, so it'll be a 275-17 and 305-18 combo. Thanks in advance!

Melting Slicks
Hoosier wets are in a different time zone than any other "street" tire. The amount of grip in the wet is truly amazing. If you are going to use the tires as a dedicated set of wets, and not drive them on the street, get the Hoosiers and be done with it.

Hmmm, Hoosier wets......I do tend to drive to local autox sites since I don't have a trailer and have no wife approved place to even put a tire trailer (her garage spot probably wouldn't go over too well). Of course I drive to some events on my A6s now......but if it stops raining, and it does quite often, we sometimes get 12 runs a day at smaller events and the wets would be toast......so I'm leaning towards either the R888 or the aforementioned NT01.
Thanks for the responses!

The R888 and the NT0l is not a fully treaded tire. After you wear them out halfway you have slicks with grooves left. The Nitto R11 is a fully treaded tire.

We have autocrossed it 5 or 6 times, and I did 2 DEs with them.
I just measured today... tread depth is still 1/8"

On a Wet Autocross course, the R888 is actually VERY good.
On a Raining or standing water Autocross course or highway,
the R888 does NOT hold well.

Just like the RA-1s the R888s are fine in the wet... if they're close to full tread depth. Once they wear a bit I found them much worse than the RA-1s I've run on other cars with similar or more wear, though. The R888s are a great drive-to-the-event tire if you can put up with the crazy road noise they generate...

The R888 and 555RII may be a nice intermediate tire but definitely not a full wet tire. I use Michelin Pilot Sports as daily drivers. They also serve as my track day and autocross wet tires.
I won the Peru national tour last year on them. There were about 4 people with hoosier wets there if I remember right, so thats saying something. The DL1 data showed essentially identical data as the Hoosier Wet in the heavy rain.
YMMV

No. Pilot Sport PS2

They are a very well constructed tire. Just expensive. (still cheaper than a dedicated set of hoosier wets)

How do the ps2 compare against the nitto rII at track events or Eve. Autocross?
Feedback, response, etc when full tread?
Do they take the heat of a 30 minute session or do they become greasy?
Been using ra1 for a while as a mixed hpde, street, and occasionally Autocross at small events.
