C4 vs C5/C6 front suspension knuckle difference:

Just curious about the reason Chevrolet went from the "balljoint in the upper A-arm" in C4s to the "balljoint in the knuckle" configuration in C5?C6 applications. What is the reasoning or advantage of this different shape? I can think of a couple reasons, but nothing compelling.
