Default Anyone Use DBA 5000 Rotors for Racing?

Or for HPDE in a fast car?

Looking for info on how well they held up and if you can compare to other 2-piece rotors you have used, all the better.

TIA...

Steve, I would also like to see what the weight comparison is between those and the Wilwoods. The GT48 Wilwood Rotors are $150 each and the Hats are like $125.00 each. The DBA 5000 rotors thru the TR are like $337 each and include hats. I think I would rather buy an extra set of hats and then I just have to buy rings as needed and safety wire. Your thoughts!

Did you decide what route you are gonna take as far as brake/wheel set up?

Also, Are we allowed to run rear 2-piece rotors in stock diameter? They still seem to beat around the bush with these new T1 rules.

From Jan Fastrack (bold added)
2. Chevrolet Corvette C-5 Incl. Fxd Cpe (98-04) Z06 (hardtop) (01-04), p. 580, replace the Brakes (mm) column with the
following: (F) 325 Vented Disc (R) 305 Vented Disc; may use two-piece steel rotors with aluminum hats up to 5% larger than 325/305; may use two-piece steel rotors with aluminum hats up to 5% larger than Z51 rotor size and any four piston caliper
with 18 x10in front wheels at a 50 pound weight increase. Add to Notes: Any brake caliper pistons are allowed; may use the
Wilwood SL6R brake caliper at no penalty.
Clearly we can change front and rear to 2-piece rotor. May be stock size or anything up to 5% larger than stock size.

Could be a pain to replace a ring between pratice and qual or qual and race, so full (hat & rotor) spares make sense.

For now (racing again on Feb 27-28) I am looking to try a stock size rotor with my C6 front calipers which have SS pistons in them.

Steve,
Thanks for asking this. Very interested as well.

What "stock size rotor" are you thinking of using, e.g. OEM (or aftermarket equivalent) or something else such as the DBA or Wilwood.

Where did you pick up your C6 calipers with SS pistons - or did you do the swap yourself?

Looking at DBA's and Hardbar's stock size 2-piece rotors.

I installed the DRM SS pistons myself.

starting to see heat checking after 4 HPDE days. I was going through stockers at the rate of 1 pair/2 days.

I'm using DBA 4000s (their one piece rotors). After 4 or 5 cool track days (fall & winter in Nor Cal), I'm seeing some heat checking, but much less than with the stock Z51 rotors. I'm happy with my decision to buy them.

Aaron talk to Darrin@Darin U Performance here on the forum. He sells DBA stuff at great prices and ships fast. DBA sells hats and rings separate too I believe.

I have the Street Series rotors on my car and they hold up well. I want to try the 5000 series when I get extra money. I have heard great things about DBA rotors.

Thanks. Can you translate that (4 HPDE days) into total hours on them?

Thanks Mike, I will give him a call and have him weigh his rotor/hat assembly.

Interested to hear what he says. Earlier today I sent an email to DBA asking just that. The site says 9.2kg (20.2 lb !) on the page for the C5 rotor. I hope that is a shipping weight.

Don't consider myself fast by any means, but I'm happy with how the DBA5000s have been holding up.

I also recommend Darrin!

DBA said that is the correct weight (20.2 lb), but that a stock C5 rotor weighs 26 lb. Is that correct? If so, I sure had the wrong figure in my head and that is a nice saving of unsprung weight.

OK it's Sat. night & I'm bored, cruising the forums.

I just weighed the front left rotor that came on my c5z when I bought it (used). It's an OEM rotor (Brazil). It has been turned down to just at min. spec and it's 17.0 lbs on a digital luggage scale accurate to 10th's I guess.

I don't think the guy that turned it took off 9 lbs. of rotor.

20.2 lbs is likely correct for their c5 rotor.

So one of my T1 buds sent me an email saying stock C5 is 18.4 lb (more like what I thought) and that his DBA 5000 C5 rotor weighs 18.8. Odd they do not know their own weights.

Edit: I sent them back that info...awaiting response.

Good stuff everyone! Now, does someone have a slotted Wilwood GT48 front rotor/hat in 13" to weigh?

Had me going for a minute on the 6 lb savings each.

Aaron,
The stock C5 front rotor weighs just under 20 pounds. Performance AFX 2 piece front weighs just under 16 pounds. We have the C6 Z51 size rotor, which you could now run in T1. That weighs 15.25 pounds, though you may need 18" wheels to run these. We also have the C5 rear without a parking brake that weighs around 14 pounds. I believe the stock rear weighs almost 21 pounds. Changing all 4 rotors would remove about 22 pounds of unsprung, rotating mass from your car. You can also remove the parking brake assembly, lever, and cable.

Give us a call if you are interested or have any further questions.

Your on it Robert, thanks buddy! Yeah, I think I would go the slim caliper route and keep my 17's since the cost to buy 2 sets of 18' CCW's is out of reach.

That being said, the bigger rotors/calipers are out. Do you offer a 2 piece STOCK 13.06 diameter front rotor/hat assembly as well that is equal to the Wilwood GT48? Specs below:

http://www.wilwood.com/Products/002-...2-GT/index.asp

13.06" (331,7) 1.25" (31,8) 12 x 8.75" (222,3) .251" 9.46" (240,3) 8.25" (209,6) 12.3 RH 160-8165

- Rock auto front C5 rotor: 18.4 lbs
- PFC two piece: 17.8 lbs
