Bodied Race car ?
Like many of the GT1 or Trans AM race cars.
Just about any body will fit over the frame with minor changes.
ex. Riggen's built Chassis, that could use a Camero or Corvette body.

I think that they were available for a couple of years. Didn't Kellermeyer build a WC car or two from boxcars? I thought that I read somewhere that LG also built a WC car from a boxcar and subsequently re-bodied it as a C6.

YES
Those were the ORIGINAL C5 FRCs. ( before the public FRC)
These were built for the Motorola Cup race series. Fore runner to the Speed World Challenge GT
They were Body in White cars. .The first 25 were sold before they were built. The next 25 took a while for Chevy to sell. IIRC non went through dealers, but were sold by GM Performance to race teams only.

Thanks for that info. I had never heard of them before. Not to much history that I can can find, and the car had some rear end damage at one time. (its a race car) Any idea on values ? Not sure where I should be price wise.
Thanks
Thanks

If you want to contact Danny Kellermeyer, this might be the place to start. It is his team's web site.

Motorola Cup became the Grand Am Cup, then Koni Challenge, now Continental Challenge. World Challenge has been around since the early 90's, and is a competitor to the series' above.
I was on the list to get one of these cars in 99 or 2000, but the original cost was $25000 and you didn't get very much for your money. As stated, after the original batch, there were a lot floating around and the prices dropped. I ended up just buying a new car with ALL of the parts, sold what I didn't need, and came out better.

a couple of them were built in texas, by some friends of mine and ran with speedvision world challenge for a few years . the team name grand sport racing, the cars were blue w white stripe[obviously], original two drivers were Kelly Bradley [team owner] ,Terry lackey, and also had G.J Mennen, And Bobby Sak in the cars at one time. Their were originally 20 of the "kit cars" put out to "Privateer" race teams. the cars basically came unassembled. The frame and drivetrain were intact, body panels were loose, no interior to speak of. Not sure what these cars would be worth, most of them were pretty beat up pretty good.and yes , they were frc's.

Thanks to everyone, Don't think I'll thow my hard earned money at this one at this present time. Seems to be some good deals startin to rise up there with this current enconomy. This car is ALL the money without much back up or even decent pictures
I have a real nice 64 Vintage road race vette with history and a pristine black unconverted Challenge car with build sheets an paper work if any one he is intrested. Practicly giving them away.
I think I found the next one !!.....................................

I've got an article coming out in Corvette Fever about these cars. We used to call them kit cars. They were a very special item. Will Coksey wrote a side bar for the article since they were produced in the Bowling Green plant. One of the interesting things was that they weren't actually sold by Chevrolet. You actually purchased them from the Service Parts Organization - or at the parts counter.
I dug up a bunch of old pictures from the era.
If I get a break in the next few days I'll put all of it up on my web site. These may be the most collectible C5s around. There's even a story of a guy here in Florida that still has the car in the original shipping boxes. He never assembled it. How interesting is that?

BTW - Danny Kellermyer is the world's expert on these cars. He has all of the records. I wouldn't even think about buying one of these cars without contacting him. These cars may well become the L88s of the C5 era. You can still get them for reasonable money right now but in another decade you might have to write a much bigger check. Here's Danny's site.

I finally got around to putting my C5 kit car article on my web site. This is a very little known part of C5 history.
This will be in Corvette Fever in the next couple of months with a lot more pictures. In the mean time enjoy the article.

I think we did car #3, #9, and #14 if I remember correctly. #14 was already built, we just did the drive train on the car. The others were full built cars
