Default 2010 Camaro

Why is this damn thing so heavy What are they like race weight? Tube frame cars are not a option. I would love to build one for myself (or customer), but I can't see racing a 2 ton machine.

Rumor is '11 Camaro will include a Z28 model with a de-tuned LS9. Not that it'll help with the weight, but it's interesting.

I sent a email off to the guy that would know the shipping weight. I know they like to over build crates, but it would give us a ruff idea anyways.

Glen posted something on his facebook, then the very next day a white one shows up at the shop for a supercharger install. I'm a sucker for white cars I think I'm in love, but it could end in a divorce Things have been strange in my life lately, so why not think outside the box

We did a challenger supercharger last fall. That car on the hoist sounded like when we lift a truck in the air.

FYI

Circle Track Magazine is building a 2010 Camaro from a body in white.
They will be using the LS3 Motor as well.

I'll bet the 2011 Mustang GT with the new 5.0 (430hp) is going to kill the 2011 Camaro SS in sales based in part to its lighter weight (3500 lbs vs. 3750+ lbs) and frankly, better styling. The new Camaro is the least "retro" of the three cars (Mustang GT, Challenge [aka "heavy pig"], and the Camaro SS). I'm not sure what GM was thinking....

The back of the new Mustang makes me start to vomit everytime I see one though. Not even Oprah has an *** that ugly.

I agree, the back of the 2010 model is "butt ugly", but I heard that Ford learned their lesson on that design and are going back to the more traditional design used on the '05 to '09 model. We'll see. If they do fix the rear end, and they bring back the Independant Rear Suspension (IRS) like they had on the 2003/04 Mustang SVT Cobra, I'll be in line to buy one.

If the bring back the IRS, it will likely weigh as much or more than the Camaro. I would guess that the IRS on the Camaro adds at least 300 pounds over what a good straight axle would weight and maybe 400 pounds more than the 10 bolt they used in the previous generation.

The Grand-Am "Grand Sport (GS)" racing class should be interesting to watch next year, which includes the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, BMW M3 and Porsche 911. The Mustang will be running the new 5.0 engine with no IRS against the Camaro with IRS. Brings back great memories of the old Trans-Am series in 1969 and 1970 (minus the German entries ).

They might be heavy, but the weight is well placed at least.

With me in it and a full tank of gas it weighed in at 3850lbs, and was 50.2/49.8 front/rear weight bias.

I have a 2010 that I road course 3times a month, and with Pfadt Springs and Sways it handles like crazy. Of course it's far from my fully gutted Z06, but handles great for its size and weight.

I would love to build one for racing as well, and most likely will once my Z06 is done. But I'll be buying a semi damaged V6 body and go from there

Here's a short vid from the latest track days (nvm the music...)

Min weight for the Grand Am Camaro is 3375, and we (while at Riley) had to add a LOT of weight back to the car. I don't recall what we got it down too tough.

granted it's still early and the Camaro is a 'new' car, it's been steadily out-selling Mustangs since its debut and still going strong last I saw. Biggest thing the Camaro has against it (as a street car) is it's interior. I love the exterior looks/stance, but can't get over the inside. As far as the 5.0 whooping on the Camaro, Chevy already has the upper hand as-is power/price wise, it wouldn't take much for Chevy to do something in reaction to the 5.0 (bring out the Z28 among other things)

I ran back up to the shop to look at the Camaro again. Something in my gut is telling me my Vette is a better fit for me at this time. It's a ton of work just to get it anywhere near what my goals are with the Camaro Cool street car! I'm at my limit for the household car rule so that is out of the question When I got married I had 7 cars and two trucks Now only 3 cars and a truck

When you get into the Camaro, you gotta have your helmet with you-a helmet is too big to fit thru the window opening. Been told that the entire production of the Camaro SLP is sold out.

Talked to the Sunoco Camaro crew chief at Daytona - pretty sure he said 3650 dry - and they have a lot of carbon fiber body panels *(that got pounded in the Conti Race). The Conti car suspension is pretty stock.
