Default anyone else go to Buttonwillow?

I've been to Buttonwillow a couple times with a stock 07 Z51. It'd be fun to chat about the course if anyone else goes there. I'm curious where others with similar cars to mine are shifting, especially when 2nd gear is used, and what speeds you are able to take specific corners at... please chime in if you have been to this course... I am mostly talking about config 13 CW, but other configs share many of the same corners... I have also done 25A CCW.

I've been going down to second for cotton corners and off-ramp, where I'm down to 45 mph or so... but thought a more aggressive approach might be to use second for sweeper, or even sunset and sunrise... where I'm down to about 60mph or so... my second gear is short in the Z51, redline is at 72.

I have been meaning to get to Buttonwillow. I hear it is a fun track.

Maybe I will go to that 2010 Cal Club Corvette Challenge by Speed Ventures deal in the link.

Ya, and whatever you do, don't ask me any questions about it. I have my own issues with the track :help:

cotton corner and off ramp dont have much time to be made up in them... main thing for cotton is getting a good exit for the I-5 straight.

Pretty sure sunset/sunrise and sweeper are solid 3rd gear if i remember.. lots of speed to carry there and SUPER important to carry speed on to that front straight... plus you dont want any torque over steer in those corners..

your gearing may vary.

Thanks for the info! If you're driving a C5 Z06 with it's original gears, I think we may have the same gearing... To give an idea of the limits of my experience/ability, I timed one lap with my DIC and got 2:14 (13 CW) This was with a stock LS2 (Z51) on street tires, and being a little conservative. I couldn't afford to go off, I had to drive the car home to LA and worse yet have no tow hook... recent heavy rain had made the off course areas a swamp.

I usually accel to 120 on the front straight and begin braking where the east loop joins the straight. I'm guessing that my car might be capable of around 2:05 or so with better/more aggressive driving??

Anyone else have times for stock cars on street tires? Or input on gearing, speeds on the straights, etc.?

Yes, sunset/rise are 3rd gear.

I really enjoy the track, however my track record there isn't very good with 2 visits and 2 dnfs I'm better at Infineon and it's a harder track :o
