Default New product for the C6Z, also testing a C5-C6 product

The idea of using stainless steel pistons in a brake caliper has been around for a long time. We have built them for the C4, C5, C6 and now the C6Z calipers. During heavy track use the need for heat control is very important. All USA built parts!
Pricing and part number will come soon to this thread.

After years of just knowing they work, I brought some home for a kitchen experiment and photo taking adventure. My wife wasn’t too happy about the science class in the kitchen, good thing she is working 2nd shift. This is my burner the only one I can over use.

My hypothesis is that the DRM stainless steel pistons will take longer to get to temp. Thus putting less heat into the water placed inside the piston. This test will help demonstrate using a stainless steel caliper piston will take longer to boil brake fluid and put less heat into the seals.

Results
2 minutes C6z stock
3:40 minutes DRM C6Z

When doing the First test, there was some more time to think about the experiment. I saw that the amount of water in the Stock C6Z was less then the amount in the DRM Stainless steel piston. The reason is we put a larger center bore for weight reasons. So I did the exact same test with the C5 and C6 base, Z51 and C5z caliper pistons. This to my surprise made our DRM stainless pistons look better!

Results
4 minutes C5-C6 stock
6 minutes DRM C5-C6

Thanks

I had a bit of a problem a couple weeks ago. My goal in life is to make the best blueberry jam ever. It's a mix between a blueberry butter and chunky jam. Made with this think dark honey that once it burns it's not coming off anytime soon. Well to make a long story short, my largest pot was about a 1/2 too small for my last batch. Hence why my wife called this burner mine. My wife and I put up over 100 quarts of food this past fall all on that burner. Our kitchen gets used and abused

Wow so quick to ridicule Randy, but no mention of how cool this test is!!

Good job Randy! This is some good education for people considering the mod.

Superb!

I have been waiting for SS pistons for the Z06 calipers I installed on our C6 Vert, always part of the plan.

They have less than 1k miles on them, not tracked, etc, Carbotech XP10/8 one piece pads, better rotors and lines, spindle ducts, ...

Can I use the stock o'rings or will I need new ones with so little use of the brakes?

Send me a PM, or whatever, I want to get them right away

Thanks!
Rick

I think you need to "backup" the first test by doing the experiment over using a microwave.

Make sure it's a full power one and double sure you wife is not around.

JUST KIDDING!

I think that's a very valid test, nice job. Reminds me of one of my favorite shows during my childhood called "Watch Mr. Wizard".

I bet not many forum members are old enough to have seen it.

*WOW* I don't know how $15ea covers the stainless steel, let alone the machining! Amazing pricing, Randy!

Made right here in Maple Lake, MN Which is about 10 miles from the shop. Made by a racer for racers.

The material gets made in MPLS, MN, I toured the mill during my welding school field trip.

From memory they use 85 percent of raw materials from northern MN. So don't worry the material didn't come from a bunch of cash for clunkers.

Why is this important to our customers??? Answer, we like to know when, where, why and how things are done from paper to turn 1.

Randy
C5 and C6 pistons are still made on the east coast.

If you all were uncertain if it'd work, just a little bit of math and physics is all that's needed to confirm, but aluminum alloys have a much much higher thermal conductivity rate than steel. For a given shape, aluminum rises to a higher temperature vs. steel for a given time period.

Good lookin' inserts.

Sending PM now. We don't feel the rears are in need of a replacement. We could build them and sell them, but we still have to sleep good at night

PM answered, thanks

No rears means less work, I have more than enough to do here so cool!!!

I fully understand, I could sell many many more "deadening" products and make a bunch more money but have chosen to sell what 99.99% of what most of my fellow enthusiasts actually need, does the job, most cost effective, etc.....and I sleep great

Randy,
Since the C6 Z06 Brake Padlets are the exact same size Front AND Rear, are the caliper pistons also the same exact size? If so, then these SS pistons would also fit into the rear calipers. Just a thought.

Randy, did you get a chance to verify the size of the rear pistons?
