Default road race tire recommondations

I have a C5 Z06 and am looking to get into a bit of road racing. I have second set of stock Z wheels and am looking for both size and type of "dot" radials that others have used
Thanks for any responses

Pick up a cheap set of street tires and have a blast. You should do several events before moving up to an R compound tire.

Thanks, but I guess I should have stated I have run several Hpde's and the last time I went I was told it was time to get R compound tires and yes it is a blast.

I am looking just to try something good with out all the trial and error.

In that case, I'd recommend the Nitto 555R2 or similar (Toyo).
I ran 275/17 & 305/18 and got nearly a full HPDE season out of them. It's more of an intermediate R compound, but they stick like crazy.

Lots of tire threads on here. It will depend what fits on those wheels but here are some opinions.

Will also depend on how far you want to push your alignment.

Do you plan on driving to and from the track with them on.

agree with sperkins, for the $$ some 555R2's are a great arrive and drive tire that'll last a long long time.

if you want to go REALLY cheap, get a set of 275/40/17 R2s (like $175/ea) and throw them on 4 front 9.5" C5Z wheels and run square. good way to bang around in HPDE on the cheap and the tires will last forever

I can't believe I sold all my 17's.
I'm down to only 2 now, but I've looked everywhere and I can't find them.

Do folks drive the RII until they cord? Or is that for only for Hoosiers?

You can, but they heat cyle out long before they cord (which is fine for DE). I ran a non-square set on stock ZO6 alignment specs for a full year at 10/10ths before I bought new tires and they still have a little bit of tread on them.
