Default How Much Oil?

95 LT1 with 7 quart Canton oil pan and Dewitts radiator with EOC. I want to run one-half to one quart over at the track. I am thinking that would be 8-8.5 quarts but want to make sure. Does that sound right?

I run 1/2 to 3/4 quart over with a stock pan. Over 100 abusive track hours on an original stock LT1 with 76,000 miles. I would think you would be in good shape if you filled it to the top of the dipstick marking and then added a 1/2 quart.

I am using the stock dipstick, so I am not sure if it gives an accurate reading.

As I think about it the dip stick should be measuring the oil level to be the correct level below the crank/tray.

So a bigger deeper pan will hold more oil but you still want that level to be the same (correct level below crank/tray)

So the stick should still be correct.

Anyone?

8-8.5 seems about right if you want to run a little extra. If it were me, I would put 7 in, run it to get oil everywhere, and then add through the fill port on the side of the oil pan. That is if you can get to it with everything in the car. If not, I think you are right on the money and plenty safe running 8-8.5.
