Wish I had the scratch to buy that little gem...what a nice thing to show up at an HPDE event with...
To own a piece of Corvette Racing history would be so
Bet it goes over a million...

Already got my own version, with a Callaway Phase 3 motor though, but wouldn't mind having the real thing, but don't want to afford it! This car was in Carlisle last year, and 3 years ago, owned by a Vette collector who also has the matching #50 "Les Blueus" C5R from Le Mans '03.

John,
It's funny...the "economy" has slowed down most things in the car auction world...but the '65 Shelby Daytona Coupe still sold for $7.25 million last April.
I think true "race cars" are in a different league than the regular auction riff-raff. And with the Corvette faithful, they will buy stuff for more than it's worth....a lot. There will be some heavy hitters at that auction. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

A bit more clarification.... According to Gary Pratt, the problem was that the dry break fuel connector was at located at the top of the filler neck. In the crash, the filler neck broke and fuel leaked causing the fire. They have since moved the dry break connector to the bottom of the fuel filler neck (just above the fuel cell). Also there is a sensor on the fuel flap door that won't allow the engine to start unless the flap is closed, ie, no fuel jug attached. There is an override just in case the sensor goes bad.

so let's all pick a price we think it will go for.
