Default The making of the latest DRM Race Car

We have been told by a couple people that have seen this car in person that we needed to do a build thread. Well since the car is almost 100 percent done, it's hard to go back and start a thread. Lucky I took a few pictures along the way. Sorry if some of the pictures are kinda dark.

The start of the chassis

This picture is of the rear part of the cage.

We notched the factory hoop for more head clearance. This allows the main hoop to be higher.

Here is the main hoop to chassis mount.

This is the A pillar in it's stock form, there is a ton of meat there.

We removed the guts to allow the cage to be further out, adds to viability and allow the stock wind shield to fit.

Welded back together.

Don't worry the factory roof got a cut job also to allow more head room

Ok so where did all the parts come from. How about a brand new Z

Here is a flat out racing brake duct setup being fabricated.

Here is a newer way of doing the forward bars.

Drysump tank about to get mounted.

Time to get some door bars in!

The driver's firewall

Mocking up body work

Off to powder coat

First thing put some anit-heat mat on the firewall

Mounted tranny and diff coolers

Wing mount

Don't worry it's not stock

Engine getting mounted

More drysump parts installed

Brakes and ducting is on

Keeping this thing cool!

Rear looking good!

Trimmed stock panel to almost hide the a-pillar bar to reduce glare.

Getting closer

Removable steering wheel

I was a bit busy for more pictures in between what is above and this one

Thanks

Nice work in a real road race shop (not a bolt on shop) of which there are not many. Even fewer with a long history like DRM. Love the brake duct work.

If I win Lotto I'll be calling for one myself. Actually I'd be happy to get my POS back on track. No I would be happy to see it in one piece and rolling in the driveway!

I've got a great idea. Build a duplicate, bill that customer, and ship it out West. Flawless idea I know!

There are 6 (at least, more like 8) T-1 drivers out West that would be more than willing to give it a thorough flogging at, well..every CA track (and then some) for you!!

Great build btw

About 700-750 hours to build. It took most of the winter.

I wouldn't be cutting up a chassis without forward bars.

Randy -

I'm glad you finally got this thread going. I saw this build and the DRM-RTR that you built last year.(surprised I never got kicked out for just hanging around the shop) Both cars are "top-notch" builds that are on par with anybody in the country. I don't think people understand that other than the powder coating and paint you guys do everything in house.

If I wasn't so "pot committed? as they say to the AtomicZ I would do a full on race build with you guys tomorrow.
