Figured I would start a new post showing some photos from the F1 Practice and Qualifying Friday and Sat .... Supposed to Rain tomorrow so may not be any good photos then... Link at bottom is to all photos ... Figured I would just post a few in here... Videos as well are on web page...
what is amazing to me is how fast these things slow down and late they can turn in .... (look at brake photos pad is thicker then both my pads and rotor combined lol) Last Photo is hair pin turn they are near parallel after turn in ...

Burning Brakes
And yes, they are insanely loud, especially when you're in a covered grandstand. This is one of my all-time favorite youtube videos. It's an Arrows F1 engine being started up and revved in the garage. Absolutely incredible.

Safety Car
Guys, if he can take those pics, the other teams can take those pics. You know that bit before the race where all the cars are sitting there on the grid with no wheels mounted? Besides, the brakes aren't particularly secret in F1. The design and materials are strictly prescribed by the rules:
(this is a 2.5 megabyte pdf file so dialups beware)

See section 11.
The teams don't make their own brakes. There are three brake manufacturers in F1 (Hitco, Brembo, and Carbone Industries) and the teams regularly switch between them. And it's not unusual for each driver on a team to use a different brand (although the teams would prefer that not be the case for obvious reasons.)
