SCCA Double National at Blackhawk Farms tidbits and some pictures.
Despite a few classes being light, it'd been a pretty decent turnout here at Blackhawk Farms SCCA Double National.
I met Jason Berkeley (great guy) and we wish each other a safe competitive race. Jason qualified with a 1:17:XX and I ran a 1:19:XX, not too good. We both have car parts that need braking in, but it appears Jason is the better driver.
Randy Pobst was on hand to help sort out yet another T1 Ferrari. The Ferrari has had some initial set up issues which are almost sorted out. Look for this car to run faster than it has previously. I'm not sure if the car will run this weekend but it would be great to go up against it.
Jason's car.
Michael Waszak.
The session before qualifying I felt a pulsating in the brake pedal. I came in to find this on both front rotors. So much for practice.
My Chasecam is on the fritz so I'm going to attempt to get video of the races with a borrowed Go Pro.
Come on out of you're in the area. The T1 cars are running with GT1, GT2, STO, STU and they also added AS because they were reeking too much havoc in group 2 with the SM and T2 cars.

I guess it's too late to wish you good luck - let us know how it goes Mike.

The blue and white #32 car was always one of my favorites. The original owner and I would always be near each other on the track. Such fun memories.
To me, Ferrari race cars should always be red...

I placed second in T1 today behind Jason Berkeley.
Jason nice job!
We're both running on worn tires just getting some races in.
Overall Jason placed 14 and I placed 15.
There was a lot of traffic that came up on us from the GT1/GT2 cars.
Mark Boden put down a track record of 1:12.401 in GT2.
We have qualifying tomorrow early am and race again after lunch.

Good job, and congrats to Jason for the win!
Looking forward to tomorrow's results as well as a write-up and some video.
You could probably use some aftermarket 2-piece rotors. I have 3 race weekends (6 races; approx. 600 track miles) on my DBA 5000 rotors. I also run C6 calipers with DRM stainless steel pistons. That combination is a big improvement over stock.
Got the rotors from Ken at www.knsbrakes.com

Is it safe to assume that this crack happened while the rotor was cooling down and you didn't notice it until getting out on track?

The white Ferrari looks elegant as opposed to a red one being 'racy'.

I've made no brakes mods yet still running 100% bone stock (except for pads). A 2 piece rotor would certainly help with modulation. I haven't decided if I want to upgrade to 18'' wheels to allow bigger calipers or stay with what I have.

I'm not absolutely sure but during the first test session I hot pitted multiple times adjusting tire pressures and one time I started to roll while the crew was taking data. I may have hit the brakes and kept my foot there too long. A silly error if I did it.

Thanks Tom.
Qualifying this morning was on a damp track.
I had my borrowed Go Pro camera ( I hate it) mistakenly set on picture mode which snaps pics every 3 seconds instead of video.
Jason was still battling sound (I'll let him chime in on his progressive steps taken, pretty humorous) which allowed me to place P1.
The grainy pics are from the Go Pro.. (Did I mention I hate it?)
Here's the start of the race going into Turn 1.
By the time we hit T3, two GT1 cars were already out of the race (look left).
On the 2nd lap of the race I thought some rubber flew into the car as I felt something under my pedals. It turned out to be an empty water bottle that must have been out of sight under the seat. I'm always so careful with this and at every DE I instruct at.
It eventually distracted me enough and here's the result: Live and Learn!
I did a pretty good job of saving it but the car stalled and would not restart for about 25 seconds, game over.
I didn't hold P1 very long but had a blast chasing Jason for about 18 laps until this point. I had a large enough lead over P3 to finish P2 but had nobody to play with for the remaining 6 laps, ho hum.
The last lap did make for some heads up driving as a GT1 spun mid turn. Here's the checkered lap after the fact at slower speeds.

Here's some better pics.
Overall it was a great weekend and everybody played nice, hard but nice. (with the one exception in the second race pictured above).
Congrats to Jason on his Double Victory!
Next stop: Road America!
