Default Comment on my brake pad selection/progression

I've gone from Hawk Blue front/stock rear, to hawk DTC70 front/blue rear, and now I will be trying out PFC01's front/carbotech xp10 rears.

At least I think that's what the PFC's are. I bought them a while back, and the box just says 'track pads'. I think they were last years' model when I bought them.

No particular reason for switching up/mixing and matching other than buying pads when I find a good deal.

Any comments on my current setup as I prepare to get trackbound once again?

the PFC-01 fronts are great but the xp10s may put too much front bias on your car. Would use the PFC-01s on the rear to match the pcf-01s on the front. or the XP-12s on the front with the xp-10s on the rear

I used to run PFC01s on the front and PFC99s on the rear. That was a popular combination 6 years ago. Don't have any experience with the Carboytech compounds so can't relate them to the 99s or the 01s. The 01s will not have the initial bite of the Blues. Of all the pads I have run the Blues seem to have the highest initial bite.

It's been so long since I ran blues in front, I really can't compare. I do have a set of ruined wheels to show for it though.

This will be my first experience with PFC and carbotech both. I hope for performance on par with my HT10 front/blue rear combo, at a minimum.

I have to say I tried the PFC01s on great recommendations, but they are not a favorite pad of mine -- by far. They seem to increase bite without an increase in pedal pressure for me as they heat up entering a corner. I am much, much happier with Wilwood H compound pads. On other cars I have Hawk Blacks and Blues and was happy with them outside of the dust and corrosion issues.

I ran PFC-Z compound on the back when I ran the PFC01s up front. I find the H front, H rear combo to be *much* better.

I ran PFC01/XP10 F/R for a while until I changed my stock from PFC to Carbotech. Carbotech said the XP10 was the closest match to the PFC01. BTW, I always run the same pad F and R even though most people say to mix them. Also, my PFC boxes always had a PN on the side. If it has "01" in it, that's what it is. 01 is the year they came out with the pad.

very inconsistent feel to the bite.

you need to STAND on them in the straights, and then too much in teh slower curves and you are into the ABS too fast. Hard for me to get used to them. THey also need to be dragged on the first lap because they dont like cold when you are running fast.

Double ditto on the inconsistent bite as you and I discussed last weekend. Like the OP I'm not sure which PFC compound but probably last year's and I bought them b/c they were cheap. IMO another case of getting what you pay for. I wasn't happy with the unpredictable bite and when I cracked a brand new rotor on the third day of the event I have to blame the pads. I'm putting DTC70 back on the car today. (along with a new set of rotors )

So, I have used PFC race pads since the mid '90s (compounds: 83, 93, & 01). They all had very high coefficients of friction. None of them were remotely cheap. I wonder if the cheap unkown compound PFC pads mentioned above that had be to "STAND" on were actually the PFC Z-Rated pads that you can get at normal stores like AutoZone. Those are NOT race pads. Just a thought...
