GT racing in Norway
Have to share this, proud of what a Corvette street car can do amongst race cars
Last weekend i finished my first GT1 race in Norway (not the same class as LeMans GT1). GT race in Norway is divided into 4 classes, GT4 , GT3, GT2 and GT1. GT1 is almost unlimited and we have Porsche GrandAm winner car from USA, Ron Fellows old car in Transam Racing, Opel DTM car and a genuine GT2 leMans car. oh and a bunch of Porsche factory buildt race cars, 997 GT3 RSR, 997 Cup S and 997 GT3, i think the 997 RSR is a very rare car and Porsche only made 50 ?
GT1 and GT2 run together, 25 cars in the lineup, normally GT3 and GT4 also drive with us, but the total number of cars was 54 and too much for the track.
Weather was bad, cold and on the border to rain the first day, and first training session was amputated for me due to main electrical power cable shorted to headers. second training stint went better and on Hoosier slicks i managed a decent time and was optimistic for qualifying run.
a little drizzle of rain made qualifying difficult and i made an error by pushing through traffic all the time, i should have let off to get a clean run on the end, all the others did that :o
So i started saturday on row 13 in my first sprint race, 7 laps WET race, i have never ever driven on rain tires, so i was not sure what to expect.
Took it easy the first few laps, was passed by a few cars, dropped to 15th, then got confidence in rain tires and car and started pushing a little.
Gained 6 placed and ended 9th overall, 6th in my class (GT1) and third best lap time, giving me 3rd row in the next 30 lap race.
Flying start in row 3 having a multiple GT race champion in front of me in a 993 GT2 race car, (2560 lb with driver), against my 3180 lb with driver), on my right hand i have Porsche GT3 RSR and Audi S1 pikes peak 4 wheel drive.
Start goes well and i get close to 993 GT2 car and manage to block off the RSR car and S1 in the first left hand turn, 997 RSR car grabs back his 2nd position half a lap later when he dives into my right in a double right hander, but conditions is tricky and after two laps he makes a mistake, going off track, then coming back in and miss me by the an inch. After that i slowly gain a good rythm and keep pace with the 993 GT2 car, but 20 second behind.
We both go into pit on lap 13th, he is 23 seconds ahead of me, to my surprise another Porsche 997 Cup S has made a early and better pit stop than me and sneak in on second place, a few laps down i catch him and outbreak him. track is dried up by now and my rain tires start to melt away under me, it is a struggle to maintain grip and keep Porsche Cup behind me, but i manage the last 5 laps and i go in as 2nd place overall and 2nd place in my class, and also set the fastest lap time of the race .
Of 25 starting cars 14 does not make the finsish, it was a havock out there and alot of $$$$ in damage,
Anyway i was extremely pleased with the first run with the car after my buildup, you can read (use google translate) more on my WEB page

Not bad for a street car with cage and a few modifications to suspensions and brakes, not to forget the amazing machine buildt by Katech.
But i need to loose weight on this car to be competetive, so i can see carbon front, fenders, rear end, Tilton clutch and maybe a sequential
I need to work with sponsors to achieve this, but i will wait after our attempt on Nurburgring as the car has to be close to production standard.
Thanks to part suppliers
Katech for building an amazing machine
Pfadt for various suspension parts and driveline
Hardbar for Penske setup
BPP for their diffuser and exhaust
ACP for their rear deck and wing
And not to forget Quality motorsports that arranged, ordered and got me most of the parts from other vendors

Congrats Rune. The car is awesome. This should be posted in the Z06 section too. A lot of those guys don't check the road racing section. I think everybody needs some pics of this beast too.

They dont build trailers like that over here.
Sounds like an awesome race! Cant wait to see the vid. I love watching GT racing from other countries. I feel like GT racing just misses it here.

Yeah was pleased with that, guys at work loved it, well some did.
our race will air next week on a motor channel, i am excited.
Now i have to find a substitute for MCPC tires, as i cant find them in 18 inch and we need the same grip as Viper ACR and Porsche to get sun 7.20
