You're going to need some sort of harness bar or something similar to attach it to. I use a Sony Handycam with a wide angle lens.
It's not the best quality in the world, but it works.

Sample:

get something with a wide angle lens, or one you can thread a wide angle adapter on to.

sperkins has to use a remote mounted hard drive recorder, no tape lasts long enough during one of his slow TT laps

I use my wifes very affordable sony digital picture camera with a large memory card (nothing special). Any digital camera should work as most of them all record video.

Now if you want quality (HD) get ready to spend some $$$.

First you need to bring it! no matter how big the memory card!

You can get a Aiptek High Definition camera for ~$100-$120 at Amazon or Target. Holds large SD cards that record up to 2 to 3 hours. Battery is good for about 2 hours. You can adapt a wide angle lens to it.

All you need is a firm place (harness bar, etc.) to mount it.

A very good deal and very easy to use. I replaced my $1,000 Sony camera with it.

I use a racepak GX2? from MSD, it does the basics lap time, segments, G's etc and is expandable to hook into the cars computer (haven't done this yet) and can have video added.

Decent price, bought mine from the trailer at The Glen.

You need a firm mounting like a harness bar. I have mine mounted to the "A" pillar roll cage down tube and it's steady as a rock.

Here's the one I have: Get it at Wally World Damn, now it's only $89.

There's a lot of guys using these Aiptek cameras. They are good quality pictures and cheap to buy.

I just got a DL1 with a dash3 display. I havent had a chance to use it yet. How did you hook up to the camera so it displays like that.

I'm using a Sony handycam attached to my roll bar and was just going to use the DL1 independently but would LOVE to sync it to the DL1 like that.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Steve

After viewing your video, I think maybe the sensor unit is mounted backwards.

You need software likeTrackvision. On the web site for the DL1 they have free software but I never tried to use it.

No it is in the correct position When I view the data with the analyzer it reads correct. When the overlay software reads the data it displays this way for the trackmate template.
