Cracked Rotors
I cracked two frt rotors last weekend at CCNEPA event at Pocono - included front straight, turn 1, back straight and tunnel turn, then north course infield - ran CCW. There were 7 -20 minute sessions for $210 on 5/24/10, Monday. Top speed on the back was about 140-145.
I use HP+ or carbo tech XP8s. I had the HP+s on. I broke the rotors when I was in my 5th session and ran with them on the rest of the day. I was told this was not a good thing to do.
I want to get NAPA rotors. They have a warrantee. Does anybody know if the warrantee applies to track used rotors?
What can I do in the future to cool rotors while driving

Warrenty does not cover racing.
Spindle ducts help.
You will never stop them from cracking, only work to prolong their life.
Driving on track with a cracked rotor is crazy.

You can add brake ducts to help cool the rotors/brakes while you're on the track, but the rotors usually crack when you're setting in the pits.
Typically, the best you can do is take a cool down lap only touching the brakes occasionally and then after you're in the pits move/roll the car a foot or two every three or four minutes for the next 10 to 15 minutes to keep the section of the rotor that's inside the caliper from staying hot while the rest of rotor cools. You'll still be cracking rotors every three days or so but it helps.

Cracked can turn to exploded instantly. which may take out your brake system instantly and then
Don't come in and put your e-brake on either. Being one piece and the shape they are flat with the cone shape makes them crack. Plus they are junk from China. Consider them a consumable like fuel.

Has anyone seen a genuine exploded rotor or the verifiable existence of one exploding?

On my Z06, I put on LG's larger cooling ducts to get more air and also got the hose extensions from LG. Initially I put the LG spindle ducts on (after I adapted them to fit), but later removed them for 2 reasons - they offset the rotor a tiny bit inside the caliper and, more importantly, I think they require too much travel for the flex hose when you turn the wheels from far right to far left.
But the larger ducts and hose extensions, cut just short of rubbing the rotor with the wheel turned in all the way and tied off to the upper A arm really seem to help.
In addition, I put on some DBA rotors to handle the high temps.
Good luck.

Oh, and cool down laps are an absolute necessity. No matter what, when you come off the track each time, drive the car slowly using the brakes as little as possible to cool them down (and the engine, tranny, driver and everything else).

Some times you don't get those cool down laps.

Yeah, but that is not an exploded rotor.
And what true evidence is there the rotor snagged and the driver just did not make a driving error.
I am not trying to be argumentative for arguing sake. I am just trying to relate six years of track days and racing myself and with a bunch of other racers and I have never ever seen some of the alleged failures.

I would prefer used rotors all day long. If you can get those from guys who have driven them on the street and then went to BBKs they are nicely seasoned and not shock seasoned like at the track.
They will last twice as long.

I've never seen or heard of an exploded rotor, on any vehicle. I only have 4 years of going to the track though. I've never even cracked a rotor on track. They always crack in the pits afterward.

Rich,
I guess you two choices - slow down or use less brake
Just trying to help! Sounds like you had good time. Sorry i missed this event - had it on my radar, but had some family stuff, maybe next year.
