Default New Corvette owner wants to go to HPDEs!

A few weeks ago I posted q's about what Corvette to get for 10 per year HPDEs and overall daily driver. I want to keep it stock for durability....
So last weekend, I got 2006 C6 Corvette with Z51 and 3LT packages with only 8,5K miles on it!

Few q's about track usage:
- what brake fluid for track (I used Motul 600 for Audi);
- what clutch fluid to use (can I use Motul 600)?
- what coolant to use? I hear mixed reviews about DexCool...
- what engine oil to use for track? (Stick with Mobil?)
- what tranny/diff fluid to use? (I used SWEPCO in Audi/Porsche with good results)

Thank you!

been using all the above for many years, except Swepco. GM has an OEM oil that has a specific synth additive for the rear...or you will have big problems. I know there are a few aftermarket companies that meet the stringent requirements, but for the diff, I'd stick with OEM fill.

Yep Motul will work fine as clutch fluid (brake/clutch fluid both systems are hydraulic). I use SRF, expensive but you never have a problem with it.

Engine oil is kind of up to you. Mobil 1 works well, some people perfer Amsoil or Redline.

Tranny and Diff fluid I would say any premium synthetic, I use Royal Purple. Others like Redline, RPM Transmissions and DTE both say either or. Truthfully its easier for me to get Royal Purple so that's why I use it.

Dexcool with Water Wetter will work fine.

with all the above replies, but I would add one comment.

Go with a slightly higher Viscosity oil for a track car. On the track, your engine is going to get warmer than the average daily driver. A higher viscosity will work a little better at those higher temperatures. I'm still talking about Mobil 1, but 15W-50 instead of the recommended 10W-30.

Folks also add an extra quart or half quart of oil on track days.

On oil cap it says 5w-30, not 10w-30.
I was planning to use 10w-40, however it's NOT dedicated track car - it's also my daily driver.

Should I also overfill by 1qt the LS2 engine, like LS6 owners do?

Welcome to the addiction! I run all of those tracks, in fact will be racing at PIR this weekend. Stop by if you can and I'll help get you pointed in the right direction.

Yes. Mine is an LS2, and I overfill by one quart at the track. The high G left turns slosh the oil to the side of the oil pan away from the oil pump pickup. Adding an extra quart combats this. By the way, you will also find that your car burns about a quart of oil during a track day. That's another reason to overfill, so it doesn't get low a quart.

Default When you mentioned consume oil - did you mean normal oil consumption or

abnormal, like due to blow by, etc.
1Qt per track day seems a lot for new engine like LS2.
I see a lot of guys with Porsche 944 add 0.5qt after every heat session, but those are older engines....

for coolant, i switched to water+water wetter (mostly for safety reasons) but it looks like I got ~5-7 degree avg temp drop out of the deal.

if you park outside and daily drive during a winter, probably not the best idea though.

It's "normal" or at least to be expected (blow-by) even in the newer engines. I watched a guy with a C6Z dump his catch-can several times during the day.

Default What about rims for track?

Will C5 Corvette rims fit/clear C6 Z51?
If not what is the good wheel setup for track - not many brands carry R-comp 19"inch.

you can any vette wheel on any vette. But the offsets are not always so pretty. you can get rubs in the front and tires sticking way out.
